    Door pod builds

Well after a massive one last night i thought i would start my door pod build. Now i know people like audioscape make door pods for the mk2 but the look to curvy to suits the lines so i thought i would make my own.

step one is to remove the pockets, then from here i roughed up the plastic with 400 grit, this will premote adhesion of the fibreglass.

now this is the early stages im going for a stock look i dont like rice door pods so im going to keep the likes as clean as possible will some curve, anyway that will be apparent next time when i get further into the build.

So i got my dremel out and zig zaged the pocket and door pocket, im told this helps adhesion too, so why not!

after that the door pocket was glassed down to the actuall pocket ( pic explains)

after that a quick rough sand was needed now this doesn't need to be perfect cos my 5 1/4 spacer will be glassed on to the surface and then glass matt will be laid over but i havnt got that far yet...

cool project. but i dont understand why your doing all this and only making it fit a 5 1/4" speaker, make it at least 6.5". some cars came with a speaker in that position, which is 5 1/4", heres a pic (dont know if you've seen them or not).

drill a few small holes where your going to glass for it to bond better.

id be putting some deadener on the inside of the plastic, spray or paint on stuff will do. might sound a bit tinny otherwise.

    ah yer the activ system

well if u stick in a 6 incher they ruin the lines of the pocket i think, so im going to get both sizes of spacer and see which is what and what suits - ideally i want
    6's but we will see,

as for the tips cheers thats why i dremel'd the plastic in zig zag chunks
