    Dave's 16V

    hi guys,
    some of you may already know the car, but i thought i better put a thread in the mk2 section.

    UK import 1989 helios blue GTI 16V.

    as a teenager, i thought what would be my first car?? so after 2 years of searching for a mk2, this popped up in the trading post, with very little info. so i rang the guy up in Adelaide on a thursday, and flew there that weekend to check it out with my old man. as a 17 year old i was very hesitant on spending that much money, so my dad said we'll take it. and i'm so glad he did!!!
    so after a road trip to adelaide a few weeks later, we got her home. and she looked like this.

    some rust patches, crappy wheels, didn't really run properly etc.
    so over the last 4 years i've been slowly doing her up..

    my main objective was to keep it semi-stock.. but with a little more performance touches.
    so over the years i've;
    cut out some rust, and resprayed half the car.
    repaired the parcel shelf (see thread how-fix-your-mk2-parcel-shelf)
    made a solid shift kit (again diy-overkill-short-throw-gear-shift-kit)
    got the seats re-upholstered
    fitted vibra-technic fast-road engine mounts
    22/25mm H&R roll bars
    Dampening Adjustable H&R -30mm suspension (now Weitec Hicon TX's)
    cut out catalytic (legally doesn't need it) and went straight through to 2 rear mufflers
    put her on some BBS RA's with polished lip and 195/55 goodyear eagle F1's

    and the list goes on......

    anyway after all that, i'm very happy with it... but it ain't finished yet!!

    things yet to do (when i get time);
    fit new injectors
    still deciding whether to fit Girling 60's
    new wishbones/polybush the whole car
    fit power-steering
    get a LSD (peloquin or quaife??).. yes the standard diff broke.

    any questions, shoot away.

    yeah its pretty good. i wound them down as soft as they can be, and it's proving alright for everyday
    but if i make it as stiff as possible, its flat as going through corners, but hit a bump and you go through the roof!!
