    Cost Of Shipping a vehicle

    Hi guys

Just wondering what the total cost would be to ship a car from overseas?... has anyone done it from the MK2 section of the forum?

Im retired with plenty of time on my hand and was thinking of bringing over a few MK2s to do various projects with..i.e Race, restore etc etc

    Questions that arise are...

Is there a company that specialises in imports?
How many cars can i fit into one container?
Cost of shipping from England, South Africa, Japan?
Is it better to travel overseas and do it from there?

Any information to start me would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Lots of threads on here about that. Carpoid did it with a corrado, several Mk2 ers.
Car has to be pre 1989 and you can bring as a personal import.
    One per year per person.
Car RoRo ferry from UK is about $2500
    Container is more hassle really.
Compliance and engineering this end is the unknown and finding a non rusty Mk2 in the UK is another challenge.
I reckon allow $10k per car including buying it and compliancing it here.
    Good Luck.

anyone import from South Africa or Japan?

The Price of around 10K per car sounds about what i was budgeting for ( some will road driven and others for the track)... obviously any good friend of a friend of a friend will make it cheaper ... so if you can get me that contact its a start.

    Loon
when you say one per year per person... does the person have to be over 18yo?
how long does it take to get here by Ro Ro ferry?

Can you lead me in the direction of the other threads please... i've had a look but must of been a man look( used to do that a lot with the ex... sometimes on purpose..hehehe)

    Thanks

Hi mate, i imported a Corrado here when i migrated from the UK.
I did it in 2005, i sent it over in a sole use container, it took 4 weeks to get here and cost me GBP1500.

A good place to start is by tapping DOTARS into google, you'll find all the rules there.
Also have a look at karmanshipping.co.uk, or cargoonline.com.au, these guys work together to get all the customs stuff done for you.
Valuation can sometimes bump the overall cost up as they charge you GST/Tax based on the value, but with a Mk2, they'll just compare it to the value of one here.
I think i was to do it, i'd prefer to go o/s and look/drive the car, buy it and take it to the shippers... and have a holiday at the same time - but plenty of people on here have bought cars sight unseen and organised it all from a chair!
I would have a look for a thread but can't be bothered to be honest It's quite simple, just look up the links i sent you..
Price wise it's always hard to say, depends what needs to be done to it and who does the work. I paid all up around $8000 from my driveway in the UK, to fully registered and driving in Australia. I probably paid a premium, but i just wanted it sorted quickly, i'm a bit impatient like that!
You can get different permits for track cars, could work out cheaper, well, you'd think so... have a man look
