Thread: cooling issue???

  1. #1

    cooling issue???

i have my water temp light coming on (even when engine is cold) and temp rises on gauge.
but once engine is warm the fans are not kicking in. (how do i over rife this to set my fans on all the time)

There is water in the system and oil in the car (they are not mixing lol)
I think its sensors are buggered...car runs fine and is not over heating....just gauges are telling me it is. (my oil temp gauage doesnt work?)

Do the fans run with the Air on?

If they do, could be the temp switch in the rad by the battery. Remove the plug and jump the permanent live on, to either of the other 2. I think it's red.

1 should be low speed and the other high IIRC.

You should get a healthy spark

Does that mean a MK2 can 'self diagnose' when a electrical part of the cooling system is faulty, thus throwing the coolant light?
MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*

No mate. The light will/should flash, if you don't notice the needle in the red or if the coolant level is low. Also a possibility that the concentration of the antifreeze is too low. Pure water doesn't conduct as well as coolant.

Velly is the needle going off the clock? Bad temp sender?

Buy yourself a resistor wheel from jaycar, will cost u $20. Ill give you some resistance readings to accurately check your sender. With the resistor wheel you become the sender if that makes sense. that way you can sweep and check cold , mid and hot.
