    catalytic question?

im getting the mid section of the exhaust replaced, straight thru to the rear muffler.
there is a empty hotdog where the cat should be.
Catalytic converters were compulsory as of '86 for australian cars
    my question is:
as the car is a pre '89 MY UK import, do these ADR's apply to my car??

    cheers,
    david

    Its a funny thing.

My 92, African import hasn't got a cat and has been through 2 road-worthy's.
Just my 2cents, of confusing input.

Are you getting a pre-made set-up or going custom?

yeah that's what i don't get.. if it was illegal then the road-worthy would pick it up.

going custom, a mate of my old mans does exhausts.
basically where the manifold ends, twin 1-3/4 pipes then into 2-1/4, then original rear muffler and backbox
well that's the plan anyway, goin in tomorrow.

got it done, i reckon its got more torque
and it gets a little crackle and pop on lift off!!!

    for reference to others...
all i could find was that any post 1986 australian made car needs a catalytic converter.
BUT if it is a private import pre 1989 then you dont need one, providing the car didn't originally have one

So does that mean you have no cat too?
I get a crack/burble on lift off, never gonna get sick of it.

    Make a video?

Spot on, my 89 16v doesn't have a cat either, nor does it need one. Although it does make getting insurance for me interesting as my car was brought to the country in 1990 and hence wasn't even fitted with the Yellow ADR plate. That business started in 91'.

x2 to putting up a video of your new exhaust! I'll be getting one in the next few months.

changing from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd at high revs sounds like its got turbo!!

That box with the 2 pipes going in, is just the std 16V dowpipe. The 16V had an extra silencer, making 4, to the 8Vs 3. I am surprised they make any noise at all.
