going by the GAP website, the standard mk2 GTI is 20mm, the mk3 is 22mm. So all technically need is to remove the mc from the vento at the wreckers and fit it to my booster. Is it a PITA job or straight foreword?

256 and 280mm calipers are the same.

If you don't do the MC the pedal travel is pretty long. The brakes still pull you up though.

With the CLI brakes, if you have a solid discs on the front. You can swap them out for 239mm vented ones. The only thing you need is pads that have less material on them.

Here's a few paragraphs of a PM Jarred sent me looooooong ago (hope you don't mind Jarred)

It's a worth while upgrade, get the extra few mm on there.

You only need the hub and caliper. (pads and discs too, naturally)

They are seperate (hub and caliper), where as the mk 2 has the one piece hub/carrier. Ball joint is no problem.

Just undo the brake line, undo the big hub nut, the suspension bolts and the ball joint, and the steering arm, and then bolt the mk 3 hub on.

I didn't do the booster or master cyl as they are pretty similar size between mk 2/3, iirc.

If you want some more stopping power you can just do a bigger master cyl, as the mk 2 booster is big enough (compare to a mk 1 atleast) Be careful that some later master cyls (mk 3) might have different sized fittings, there are also ones that have two ports and 4 ports, so make sure you get one that bolts straight on, to make your life easier. Brake lines again, IIRC, are different, but I can't be rememeber which lines I used when I put the mk 3 calipers on. Just a good excuse to upgrade to braided lines.

The booster also has a different connection to the brake pedal between mk 2 and 3.
And as said, not upgrading the MS will result in increased pedal distance.

If any of the above information is incorrect, tough, this is a disclaimer haha

i wish the bearings came already so i can fit them and check the pedal feel you guys mention. How hard is it to replace MS?

I have a track day on the 24th (1 week!) and still have to fit coilovers and install the bearings and brakes :/

You need to be able to bleed brakes, otherwise it's a bolt on fit. A bit tight fir access but bolt on.

I bet you can walk into Imparts on South Road and get those wheel bearings off the shelf.

    Imparts? Damnnn

I rang around for a quote and surprisingly SCA was the cheapest (sprints $200 set, CBC $250 and solitaire vw was $130 ea) I already paid and orders them thru SCA so it's a little late now, I will see how good they are when they arrive, it's been almost a week now :/
