It's rego time so I borrowed some 14's to make it more "inspection" friendly. Plus my 15's needed new rubber on the back and I'm saving to get tyres for the 17's.

Of all the things I thought it would fail on they only picked the right tie rod inner has too much play, engine oil leak and a rust spot in front of the windscreen.

Could have been worse but now I know what I'm doing this weekend.

It turned out to be almost nothing once I took off the paint and surface rust.

    Looked really bad

But this is what was under the paint.

Some metal filler and a bit of sanding should fix this and under the windscreen rubber it all looks OK. That hole doesn't get bigger but has to be fixed. I know it's small but technically any hole in the body is a rego fail.

Because it's Qld rego going to NSW it needed a blue slip and I deliberatly took it to an inspection station that I know are tough so they would find everything that was wrong. I was surprised they didn't fail it on no timing belt cover (upper) or missing high mounted brake light but these are things I'll fix anyway. They weren't worried about the coilovers either.

Not so bad Paul! Looks like you have already solved the rust spot, the tie rod should pretty easy to resolve.

How bad is the oil leak?

The oil leak was just left over oil from when the oil cooler spat out 4 litres all over the road. It's all been wiped up, tie rod and rust spot fixed and as of this morning she has NSW rego.

Time to fit the 17's, wind the coils down and get the 16v organised.

I should at least be able to get the first 2 done for the Nationals.

I hate fitting new number plates, you have to do so much work to make sure they are level.

Then you have to do it all again to make sure the rear plates are level too.

    Heater core replacement.

Worst job you can do on a MK2, takes forever to take it out then another forever to get all the vents realigned when you put it back together.

At least it gave me the chance to tidy up some of the wiring. I found two aerial connections and both weren't connected to anything.
