Best VAG steering wheel for Mk2 Golf

    Hi guys,

I'm thinking about replacing the steering wheel in my car with something smaller (as you know the OEM GTI wheel is quite large). I'm not interested in any of the aftermarket stuff, want to keep it as original as possible. I'd definitely prefer a 3-spoke wheel. I found these three which I quite like, need to check the size of the spline in my car first though, however from what I understand adapters are available to go from small to large and vice versa, if needed. All of these are roughly 360mm in diameter AFAIK.

    Polo g40:

Mk3 Golf GTI (really like this one, should fit into a mk2 from what I found):

Mk2 GTI (saw this in some South African imports in Aus, definitely the most 'retro' looking):

Or maybe Wolfsburg (from a Mk1 GTI)?

What do you guys think? Are there any other similar options you know of?

    Cheers,
    Dom

That's the style I have on my SA import, although it's not in as good condition.
It's a PITA to use in tight car parks particularly because I don't have power steering haha.

I do (have power steering), so that shouldn't be a problem

I think it actually suits the Mk2 the best (of all of the above) - is it 360mm, Ryan?

    Yep, its 360mm.
I think Redmk2gti has one up for sale, but not sure on the spline size.

I'm Ryan, it's more era specific & suits the car better.
    If you are feeling adventurous you could try & find a US market 16v wheel;

The one on the right with the Red flash & 16v script.

It is definitely a small spline size, someone removed the spline adaptor from your Mk2 and fitted this in.

Most of the above steering wheel look good in a Mk2, I'd add the 4 button Mk1 GTI as the option

Oh, by the way, I've decided to keep that s/w

The early-MK1 GTI/Scirocco wheel (2nd pic) can't be beaten IMO. I love MK2 interiors and that would definitely be the wheel I'd have.

Sorry they're all LHD, would have taken me heaps longer to find good pics of RHD interiors.

This is awesome, thanks Jace (and everyone else as well)

The first one is what I've got in my car at the moment. I do also really like the Mk1 GTI one as well. Plus, it looks like it's quite a bit smaller too. Again, I need to check the size of the spline and I'll go from there.

    Any other suggestions?

Polo G40 would be my pick. Love the stainless steel insert bit If it can fit.

Actually it's not, the Mk1 4 button GTI, Wolfsburg and Aussie Mk2 steering wheel are all the same diameter, the SA Mk2 one is smaller.

I know because I have all of them
