my 2e pops off 7g all day long..revs smooth and has enough torque to tow a tractor...

Dont be quick to dismiss a good 8v...

    A local 8v is a bit of a S&%tter tho...
Oz delivered 8v were the JAP type strict imission detuned boat anchours.

Only thing I can think of is the O2 sensor, is it chewing through more fuel since its been sluggish? also have you tried putting the old chip back in to check that?
I loosend it and it is fine in concernes with pulling it open etc but no matter what you do to the tension it will not open more than 90% on full throttle.

I have played with everything today. The temp sender made no change.
I put back the OEM MAF and it was the same. I replaced all vacume lines, checked spark plugs and leads etc all seems good. I put back the stock chip and the car wouldnt start lol.

The problem has been there since as far back as i can remember, before all the mods. I remeber buying these mods thinking it would help the strugling.

I unpluged the O2 sensor and it had the same strugling problem but alot more violent. I also found something wierd in the wiring, one of the wiers that goes to the plug of the o2 sensor is wraped in another wire which is grounded to the rocker cover. A wire inside a wire?

So what do i do to fix this? I put a chip on but i also have the breathing mods, i know i dont have cam etc but other have the same mods and seem to be running fine eg. static.

I also agree with you, i think it is over fueling, it seems to go through fuel a bit quick, it always has but i thought that was normal.

Im geting a newish o2 sensor and the duel downpipe and mani tomorow, ill see how i go.
Should that help reduce it running too rich? Does the o2 sensor have alot to do with it?

Just to add, im not sure if this is a problem or not, but my water temp never goes past the fat white line. I dont have anything in the cooling system, just plane water (the color of coffee though). If i turn the rad fan off it will go up past the fat white line. On freeways it will drop to the end. Again, temp sender is new.

Your car has no mods to help brething.
It has a restrictive exhaust and a chip that is throwing in too much fuel. The chip is probably designed for a european spec Golf 2 so with an aussie one it is throwing in massively too much fuel.

Sounds like the o2 sensor is dodgy and that controls lots of things with the ecu.

You need a thermostat in the car and some coolant. i`d change the temp sensors as they are probably rooted from sitting in coffee!

You need to put stock bits on the car until you get it running right then you can improve things. Using random BMW parts will not help it run right.

    Good Luck

You mate me sound stupid, and your probly right haha.

I did put stock bits back on with no difference, as far as i remember it was like that with the stock bits.

The temp sensor is brand new, do you realy think it would be stuffed after 6months? The water is dirty, coffee colored, but i was always told that it doesnt realy matter. Is that true?

Did you put new stock parts? or the broken ones that came off it??

Coolant cools the motor. scummy water doesnt cool as effectively and carries bits of crud around to jam things like thermostats. And it will assist in corroding bits like heads.

    Sweet.

About 30min ago, something els was added to the GOLFII to do list. The accel. cable snaped as i was backing out of my drive way and i live on a steep hill so that was no fun.

    To do list:
    accel. cable
    master cylinder
    O2 sensor
    Flush cooling system
    thermostat
    power steering pump
    speedo cable

thats all i can think of right now, guaranteed something els will brake.

If u wanna flush the system just take the top and bottom radiator hose off and run a hose thru the top one, then give the motor a rev to circulate the water. Prob best to take ur thermo out at this point so that the gunk doesnt get caught there and u can put a new one in.
