Access to under the battery tray?

    Hey all,

Been having on and off issues with the mk2 laterly, electrics turning off (usually when the lights are on) and causing the car to turn off also. Yesterday I went to take the old battery out cos well its old and 'liberated' from a mk1

Anyway, I had noticed a week ago white powder all around the battery and didn't take much notice at the time. Turns out its battery acid, so I took the battery out yesterday and cleaned up all the white powder, as I was looking for any acid damage, thank god none that I can see, I noticed a cable running underneath the battery tray though the hole with the red arrow pointing:

What I want to know is, any ideas what the cable will be? and how can I get in there without hacking the car apart? is it possible? do I need the front end off?

Would really appreciate any knowledge that'll get the mk2 back on the road,

    Nick.

    Yeah Alex built the car.

And not sure what the volt charge is at, never checked... but car definitely runs without a battery plugged in
