    8V Carbs

So Bdays comin up soon, and was thinking of buying myself something...

checking out some vids on utube and came across heaps of vdubs with carbs,

my mk2 is an 8V and has k-jet so dont know if that changes anything but ive seen some vids of 8V's with these carbs and they sound pretty cool, dunno much about them but they look tough so thought id start a thread.

Anyone that wants to share info go ahead, worth it? expensive? manageable? fun? headache? whatever let us know

Generally, going from EFI to carbs is a backwards step.

Since you havn't posted a pic, I'm going to assume you are talking about a twin DCOE setup. With manifold and with carbs rebuilt it would set you back around 1,000. plus a bit more and you can get brand new, take a little off and you can get some that need rebuilding. (not for the faint hearted) Then add another 3-500 bucks to get them tuned properly.

You'll make similar power, with less driveability, and worse economy, and worse reliability.

btw, your car is actually EFI (digifant)

Thanks for the info jarred, i didnt know much about them so thought id just ask, but now they definitely sound like a headache.

annnnnyyywayyy, moving on to another subject,

Ill be doing an engine swap down the road maybe next year, and I'm caught up between 2 engines, the 20V 1.8t, or a mk4 r32 engine...

since youve done a vr6, i was wondering how hard and if it was worth it?

i know the r32 sounds ridiculous, but the only reason im thinking about it is cause im most likely going to import a damaged r32 from the states to fix mine, and if the engine is good in it..then...PLONK

Ive always been stuck on the 20V though.. just looks easier

there is plenty of info on VR and 20VT swaps into mk 2's both on this forum, on other forums, and on dedicated websites.

Neither swap is for the feight-hearted, or light wallet-ed.

    8V Carbs

Nope. Going 16v hopefully so not going to need them. Unless I carb the 16... Which could be a possibility!
