02A gearbox wanted for 1.8T conversion

    hello Mk2 Crazies

I'm slowly getting my act togeather for the 1.8T conversion, but have discovered some issues swarting my plans.
I was planing to use the 02R gearbox out of the polo GTI I picked up but it has nowhere to mount the rear bracket for the mount, Im not keen on dodgying up a bracket and I'd rather use stock drive shafts etc. So looka like I'm now after a suitable 02a gearbox.

I will sometime down the track have some tuning done. and i'd prefer to use the cable shift & hydrolic clutch, i'd also like to use stock axles etc so looks like the 02A is the only way to go.

    open to sugestions on this.
just to confirm, am i looking for the 02A off the vr6 and Diesel mk3's

    No bracket mounting points

I'm confused. You've got 6 bolts there that can be used to hold a bracket so why do you need a different gearbox?

Any machine shop or decent backyard mechanic could build a bracket to suit in an hour or two. You're not building a race car where weight is important so a strong bracket that's over engineered would be real easy to make.

    Cheers

You should be able to find a VR6 one pretty easily - diesel golf however is pretty hard. I imported a CTN code gearbox from the UK - actually cost me next to nothing when the exchange rate was good. It was about $300 shipped. Probably be about $500 now. CTN is from a Passat b3/MK3 Golf and apparently has the best ratios for MK1 1.8T's.

    Hi Paul
I did originally think I would use the bolts and make a bracket but I just assumed using those bolts may interfere with the integrity of the seal, my 020 ended up leaking from the gasket twice so last thing I wanted to do was to play with them and end up with a leak.

Creating a bracket is not a issue, What the hell, I'll give it a blast and tackle issues it they arise

VR6 gearbox has a different bellhousing to the 02A used on a 4 Cylinder.
You cannot bolt a VR6 box to a 4cylinder engine.
You can pull the Vr6 box apart for the gears and put it in another 4 cylinder case. Or make a bracket.
