The last house we rented, and ALL the neighbours put their bins on our front strip. Apparently it was due to the truck only backing down. Ironically it backed down as the street always had so many cars parked on it, but in reality it could turn around and mostly did that. What annoyed us even more was that they would sometimes leave their bins there for days, and then move them really late at night/early the next morning and our bedroom was right at the front. Even better was when they moved OUR bins further down the street and put theirs in their place. Sometimes ours were then missed or knocked over when that happened.

Sheesh, if I had a driveway or carport I'd definitely withstand the 'inconvenience' and use it. None of the places I've had since moving out of home have had off-street parking so a driveway would be heaven (well, almost).
At my old place, the council issued permits to residents who could then park in permit zones. It didn't stop many visitors to the near-by pubs and cafes using them. My landlord - who lived just behind my place - would even call the council and get them all ticketed - even late at night or on a weekend!
And speaking of bins, last week one of my neighbours decided to dump their garbage in my bin straight after it had been emptied (and still on the street). Filled it right up so I couldn't use it. Pretty sure it was someone from a unit behind me who was moving out and just didn't care. I put up an angry note and told the land agent, but nothing!
