its the whole american ''yes its okay to slag other brands openly in your advertising campaigns'' thing. you should see their medicine and cereal ads- not to mention insurance ads.

it would be good if each company could concentrate on their own merits rather than denigrate their competetors, but id DOES make for interesting ads...

I think BMW won that particular advertising battle. If i were Audi, i'd be having serious words with my advertising agency.

to be fair to Audi though, they advertise an A4, and BMW counters with an M3? hardly a level playing field.

but most punters who see the advert wouldnt know the differences

yeah. i think the level of ignorance on the whole, and generally speaking, is pretty high.

most of those driving past wouldnt know the difference between an audi a4 and an audi s5/ bmw 318i and a bmw m3. they'd just daydream at the thought of having a "luxury car" instead of a 13 year old chevy suburban or ford excursion.

Thats a bit of an arrogant thing to state Scott. Being part of the industry I know for sure that Ads are specifically placed in areas that reach potential customers. Other then that, i know many that can afford 'luxury' cars that live in 'working class'/'middle class' suburbia. Sorry i just hate stereotypes and arrogant statements.

anthony, to be fair to scott, his comment is a bit of a generalisation, but i'd tend to suggest that the 'luxury cars in working class' examples you mention are more of an exception rather than the rule.

i'd also suggest that there would be more tendency where there is cash in those areas to splash out on an HSV, rather than an Audi?

I dont think Scott's comments was meant to be stereotypical or arrogant, and would suggest that statistics would probably support his intent.

Or am I wrong scott, are you just an arrogant b**** ?

This is awesome because Audi USA thought of the first Billboard... And they got smashed by a local advertising agency that approached BMW

I don't understand why Audi would run the first billboard and NOT expect a response ..

    Talk about asking for it

I can just see the BMW execs rubbing their hands in glee at the invitation.

    Cool

I can see both companies rubbing their greedy hands in excited expectation....because they both got exactly what they both aimed for in the first place......everyone talking about them...for the cost of two cheap billboards in comparison to the cost of a tv advertising program.

    The joke is on us.
