i'm currently with Shannons for the 06 polo gti - $502.00 and agreed for $20k which was the amount of paid for it. Never had to put a claim in so i don't know how they are on coughing up the moula.

They also insured my Maxi Caddy , Mazda 6 and 94 harley so i get a good discount.

I have 3rd party as I really could not care how hard they are to deal with. They were so cheap it was fantastic. You also find that they are much more specific with details, so you may be careful if you use incorrect info and then get caught not using it how they think you use it.

Virgin are also in the market now - http://virginmoney.com.au/car-insurance/

When my renewal was due I got a few online quotes. My AAMI renewal was cheaper than all except the AAMI online quote??? Curious, I called them to find out why?

Their answer - the online quotes are cheaper because they are there to get new business and we'll get our money back over the next couple of years.

On the whole, I'd say insurance companies are B*******. The sort of business you want shares in but not to be a customer

They won't insure me! I'm a drunkard who got booked for refusing a drink driving test, when I was moving my car 2 feet (& Obviously drunk). Can't wait till my 3 years is over, and I don't have to tell insurers this detail..!! So embarrassing!

After a pricing debarkle with NRMA, I had a look at Shannons(wouldn't insure me as I have a car port, and not a garage), then did the AAMI online quote. I listed all of my mods (that I could), including the chip, and that I have had an at fault accident in the last 12 months, and it came back with just over $600.

With options, my final payment was $688, I then rang them up and listed my other mods at no extra cost to my premium, so I'm not complaining about that.

I'm with Shannons for all my cars and now my greenslips too. They were cheap and better than my previous insurer so it was a no brainer, although I really should double check these things again this year (since I try to do it every year to make sure I'm getting best value).

Reality is my postcard screws me most of all, both cars are $800 ish for 30 year old drivers with good history, it's all about the post code unfortunately.

When I was in the purchase stage of my MKIV R32, I called Shannon's and was told that I don't qualify as an enthusiast. Went with Just Car, $1100 with rating one. Not bad.

Question - if you go for agreed, what level do you set it at ? The cost of the car at the time you bought it, or something a bit less which is more reasonable ?

2008 (MY09) Volkswagen Passat .:R36 (agreed value: $73,000) including all modifications
2008 Suzuki B-King (agreed value: $18,000) including all modifications

...all with Shannons. Total anual premium = $1700.00 for full comprehensive with maximum no claim bonus for life, my choice of repairer, keep the wreck (in the event of a write off), free windscreen for each car (1 per year).
