For me one of the best things about facebook is the events. If you want to organise anything you make a facebook event and everything is sweet. No mucking around with a thousand phone calls or anything. Only reason I use it is to keep in contact with friends from school. Without facebook I'd barely ever see them.

Apart from perving I have to agree.

I was the one of the only blokes from my school to head to Uni, so keeping up with the goss, who crashed what and who is banging who is high on my agender.

Use it to promote my business, and keep in touch with friends and family interstate and overseas. Helpful when you have a son in London ATM.

    lol... I'm definitely not!
Just perhaps, I don't like to see when the big companies use social media to spy on people. Next thing we may notice could be that when you go let’s say to the dealer, they will have your complete profile and your life on one page; courtesy of the Facebook and some smart program that somebody put together. Other than that, I agree with many that it is a good tool for advertising and general business.

I currently work in a digital marketing company where we set up and manage client's facebook pages as one of our services.

It can definitely be an effective marketing tool, and there's alot of cash in it for us!

I use facebook rarely, even though everyone my age is using it like crazy - I just find it a huge waste of time. It's been good to find people that you haven't seen in a long time but other than that it's just letting people find out too much personal information about yourself! So many people live their lives on facebook! I'ld rather be on a forum any day and actually find out something new that could be useful!

    What he said.
I'm interested in things like dubaddiction etc, but facebook isn't where i would 'hear' about them. People are generally only into their own little things and friends in their own little cyber-social cliques in my experience, and no-one is necessarily going to find your business on facebook among the other gazillion ads or whatever on there unless they google it, but then they'll find your details anyway.

I've used it to promote my gigs but people forget coz they are constantly bombarded by advertising/promotion sensory overload! The ads just disappear in the sea of promo-media.

I think its also partially true that its a marketing tool that marketers are into because it pays their wages! Its like the marketing people themselves are the only ones paying any attention to the, um, marketing.
It's a bit like the Jazz scene. It really only interests jazz muso's coz they are the only ones who 'get it' and seek it out...

    2c spent.

Its just the same as any other marketing tool.

We now have a Dub Addiction facebook page and its an excellent way to deliver news and information to customers who choose to "like" us. It is also great for customers to ask questions/interact/share their appreciation.

I dont see a problem at all with direct marketing to customers who choose to follow it? Its just the same as signing up for a newsletter when you register on a website. You can opt in or out.

I dont buy people not being able to take responsibility for their own choices. If youre one of those suckers that watches daytime TV and purchases the latest amazing fitness machine.. welll then I think there is a fundamental problem here and as the saying goes. Totally agree, Tim.

My TPR Engineering page, like yours, i find an excellent marketing tool. Best thing is that it's free and targets only the people that are interested.

By the sounds of it, you're doing it wrong.
