    Who use the Facebook?

What a silly question, almost everyone. But this came to my mailbox today Automotive News Social Media Webinar Series | Webinar Details | powered by RegOnline , so what used to be a social media will get (or it is for a long time) hijacked and commercialized. I know that other social medias will surface up, but that is one of the reason why I never bothered to join the Facebook or the similar. You will get manipulated onto buying certain products, it is affecting your judgment.

What is wrong with businesses taking to facebook?
Its just the same as any other marketing tool.

We now have a Dub Addiction facebook page and its an excellent way to deliver news and information to customers who choose to "like" us. It is also great for customers to ask questions/interact/share their appreciation.

I dont see a problem at all with direct marketing to customers who choose to follow it? Its just the same as signing up for a newsletter when you register on a website. You can opt in or out.

I dont buy people not being able to take responsibility for their own choices. If youre one of those suckers that watches daytime TV and purchases the latest amazing fitness machine.. welll then I think there is a fundamental problem here and as the saying goes. "A fool and their money are easily parted."

Social Media was hijacked by commercial interests years ago.

A mate of mine is in advertising/marketing. He makes lots of his money by managing co-ordinated marketing campaigns that have facebook pages, twitter & blogs. He's been doing for years - setting up the pages, writing content, promoting the network.

One of his clients provides training services to personal trainers. It was quite ironic to see my 20kg overweight mate with a rolly hanging out his mouth & a beer next to him doing a blog about how great it was to be training all these people that will help spread the "fitness word" & make Australians a fitter society.

If you thought the likes of facebook, MySpace, Twitter or anything else on the internet was conceived with altruism in mind you are sadly mistaken.

I do but it annoys me.
Facebook has ads posted everywhere, not to mention all the stupid and immature pages.
What you mentioned, social media being hijacked.

Not sure if you've seen Google Plus? If you can get your family/friends to use it, it's really good.
I've been using it with some clients who don't have Skype.
At the moment there are no ads.

Edit: From what ^ they said. I'm not against business using pages on Facebook, I myself think it's really good for businesses.

I don't use any social media other than interest specific forums as i don't believe i need to let everyone know everyhting about me and my life/interests.

I do see Tim's point though about how it allows for targeted advertising for companies.

I'm with Tim on this one too, i use facebook as a marketing tool, i advertise on there too, i can target people in my area to notice that i'm here being a fairly new business. It's a cheap website, i can be found on google now i have my business page on facebook. I can upload as many pics as i like so people can see what i do.

I also like keeping up to date with other businesses/music etc by 'liking' them and getting the latest on the news feed, it's a good thing!

Also, as i'm from the UK, it's a great way of seeing what my mates are up to back there, and the thing is you don't have to share everything with everyone one there...

The good thing about Facebook pages like the dub addiction one is that you know that those who see your page are seeing it because they want to and they opted in, you don't have to waste half your advertising effort on letting them know the broad details of who you are and what you do, they already know that. You can get right down to offering the content the people want.

Facebook is great in that you can be invited to, say, a business' page and if you want to hear updates from it, you can choose to "like it". If not, you just ignore it, and that is usually the end of it.

I never liked Facebook when it first came out, it was just another social network to join and another account name/password to remember. But having bought an iPhone and just generally losing contact of old friends, it's a nice way to see what others are doing and keep up to date with things that interests me.
