    Who moderates the moderators?

There is a certain moderator on this forum who really bugs me. No doubt many people will know who I mean and have borne the brunt of their ego/power trip.

Clearly they know their stuff and have a tough job, but in my opinion it's to the detriment of the VWW community. I've seen many new forum members being slammed by this moderator withing their first dozen posts, simply for offering slightly incorrect advice or posting in the wrong place.

I personally have copped infringements because the moderator has no sense of humour.

So how do people become moderators and who checks that the people watching us are actually reinforcing and promoting the values of our great forum rather than just being a giant douche?

I spy with my little eye something begining with C???

Maybe address your concerns to "The Hawk" as i believe he is the site administrator.

There is a very fine line between too much moderation and not enough and VWWC treads this line quite well most of the time but i do agree that there are a few instances where it falls off.
Also whilst it is good to have moderators of section that own the vehicles sometimes they have been seen to show bias towards that specific type of vehicle.

It isn't an enviable position though as they are giving up their own time to moderate a forum for free and tehy do have to deal with crap a lot of the time like fights between members etc.

hrm, from my experience of owning and running a forum for the last 3 years with practiacally the same sized online list as VWW -tough job.

the mods that help out and actually do their job always get paddled by members who were out of line.

its a catch 22, ive had litigation, physical threats, countless messed up emails and messages through social netowrks because the general population are under the impression that the site owner needs to be accountable for everything that happens and automatically assume that i shoud be involved with petty squabbles.

this topic will do more harm than good tony - you need to be diplomatic and go direclty to the sauce.

as a forum administrator elsewhere....I concur.

Don't make enemies of people who can help you.

For the record....I reckon "C" does a great job.

    yup i agree...but...

yup i agree - but it is a thankless job and would probably frustrate me as well - although i wouldn't be as "short" with people - better just them leave be rather than get keyboard rage or in a tit vs tat argument which is not unusual in internet forums let face it

Perhaps we should get a "pool" of administrators and take turns - like 1 day on 10 days off kinda thing - maybe its not viable training people etc but there should be a solution

I love this forum and really appreciate the input from the very knowledgeable members and moderators. It frustrates me though, that new members, and people genuinely trying to help with advice, get told off by a moderator that claims to operate with the best intentions of the community.

I have no doubt it's a difficult job, but every other moderator on here seems to keep their sections running smoothly without getting members offside.

And the source would give me an infraction for such blasphemy!

I was expressing a point to guage the opinions of others, rather than make a complaint about an individual. Going to the administrator as a sole wouldn't carry too much value in my opinion. Maybe just raising awareness will solve the issue.

as an ex-mod of this site I totally agree it is a hard job to make everyone happy all of the time.

I agree with the above that any issues you should raise with the hawk.

My opinion, if you have a problem then take it up with the person you have a problem with! Simple, no need to start threads like this which usually create further angst. If you don't like a decision take it one level higher!

Not being nasty but I'm also a moderator on other sites and actually welcome people PM'ing me rather than taking their personal grievances to the whole forum, this is usually not good for the community. That's part of the reason forums have a "report post" feature.

Anyway I think this is a great community and if I don't like something I read here, I ignore it unless it's offensive or is against forum rules etc
