Who has first hand knowledge if buying a car in NSW for QLD?

Hey there, as you know I have JVLR32's car now, and now I have my QLD plates made up I need to get the paperwork sorted out. As far as I knew you had to get a RWC done and then get paperwork done at Transport office, thats what we were going to do, but as we had to wait for our new personal plates its only just come around to that time. The RWC has been done now in QLD and we have been informed that we need to take the plates and paper work to the transport office to set it all for QLD rego etc and pay our crappy tax on the cost price of the car, but they have said we need to bring the car along aswell for a inspection!! I have had the RWC and also been inspected by the insurnace company and all ok, but now the Transport office have to inspect it aswell????? We thought we just had to log the plates and paper work and thats it. Has anyone in QLD bought in NSW and had to go through this process???????? .......VW...........

I'm keen to know this too, as I am looking to buy a vehicle in NSW and take it back up to Townsville with me when I get home.
Its funny, as it dosn't mention anything on the QLD Tpt website about interstate car buying and re registration that I can find.

I have done it..... Bought a car from Sydney last year with a few months rego still left on it. Had the car transported up here and drove it arround for a little while with the NSW rego then just got a roadworthy certificate for it and went to the local department of transport. They wanted to see the car to make sure it was the same car that i had the paper work for but didnt want to check it out for faults or anything like that. I did have a document from the seller which was on the back of the NSW certificate of registration which just listed sale date ,Price of sale, date, sellers/buyers name and signature .
I found it very easy process and only took about 30min with that including taking off the old plates and fitting the new (They did want the old plates but they were personalized ones so i kept them)

As per Joe there's a pretty good chance that they won't even look at it. If they do it'll be purely to check the VIN and the odometer matches your paperwork (to 1000kms). They had to do this when I transferred ownership of my first car (from my grandparents name to mine).

A good tip would be to take the car to Kessels Rd. It's absolutely nuts there and they also have no onsite inspectors as they have no pits.
If you take it to say the Kingston branch that's where they have the inspection pits and inspectors.

Another tip as well is to either go first thing on a Monday morning or on a Friday afternoon. That way you are getting someone who is in a good mood because they haven't had to put up with crap all week or they are looking forward to the weekend and are just going through the motions now.

There should be no real issues but hope this helps put your mind at ease.

Normally takes longer in the line to be served than to get your rego sorted

Ok, all done, had to wait for about 45mis to be seen and then paperwork took about 10 mins and didnt even want to see the car! new plates fitted and now waiting for the rego window sticker in the post, hopefully it wont take long.....VW..........
