Yeah - I love the 288GTO. It's the car that the F40 is based on.
They took five 288GTO's, developed them into this:
and then they DETUNED them and pretty'd up the bodywork to be an F40:

+1... in my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed, and it's my personal fave....
there are lots of other cars out there that are pretty and will grab my attention, but this is the one. just like with music - lots of songs i love, but "estranged" by G'N'R is still my all time favorite.
i also loved this when i was a kid:

1932 5 window couple, all steel. Not sure if I want to go fully fendered or fenderless. Either gloss black or flat brown.
Would like to run some period style steel wheels with chrome caps. Cross ply looking tyres.
Flat head V8, offenhauser flathead, balanced bottom end, high comp, cams, six jugs.
Some form of horrible heavy gearbox with a supper stiff clutch.
Halibrand quick change rear end.
All new "old school" suspension. (Drop beam, shocks, steering arms)
Finned drum brakes.
Bee hive oil cooler.
Banjo wheel, old guages, old looking but super comfy seats.
Pretty much want it to sound like word is coming to an end when ya give it some right pedal action.
If things go to plan this will be something I hope to acheive one day. If my olman and kids could help me life would be sweet.
I'm just gonna put this out there... People who like VW's have good taste in carsparticularly Ferraris and Porsches (although so far I've liked all the suggestions in here
)
2014 Golf GTI PP - Pure White
New GT3RS 4.0 is a close second.
First place would be the Singer Porsche, absolutely love it!

I don't know the Ferrari range too well, but the F40 wouldn't be my pick; to me, it's too "over-done". Some of the earlier models (like the 288? pictured earlier) look much better to me.
I do have a soft spot for the 911, but I've never felt a desire to own one - even if money wasn't an issue.
As an engineer, the McLaren F1 will always hold a soft spot for me - primarily for the uncompromising engineering that went into it, and what they achieved with a naturally aspirated motor. I think the Veyron is also impressive, but it's never captured my imagination like the F1 did.
Right now, this is my favourite car.

I really am a sucker for the old Porsches:
