    What would u choose?

After some advice from the knowledgeables.

    Which is a better buy?
    1) 2002 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 4th Gen MY02 S @ $8000

    2) 2005 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF V COMFORTLINE TIPTRONIC @$12000

Mileage are approx the same at under 100k and both are auto with 2 litre engine.

    The MK4

MKV will be more expensive to run i am guessing, parts will cost more, more complicated, if something goes wrong it would be big $$$. A MK4 is simple, lots of cheap andf second hand parts available
    MODS- TOO MANY

You should find out how much a Carbon clean is as well, find someone that actually knows how to do it too!

Good choice, especially if the mk4 had the crappy 3-speed auto ( i know some of the late '90's models did-unsure about post 2000). I would have taken the mk5 also because its a newer car and newer model.

The 3 speed was last seen in the mk2 Golf. MK3/MK4 got the 4 speed and the MK5 got the 6 speed. The 6 speed is also plagued with valve body issues!

woops You're right, well regardless, when my grandpa had a mk4 ( can't remember exact model) it had the worst auto-box I have ever seen. It just would not change up for ages!
