Hi all.
If I were to buy some genuine VW parts from overseas (UK, US) and install them myself or by some authorised VW mechanic (not the dealership) would it void VW warranty?
For example, if I were to buy RCD510 or Bluetooth or Mudflaps or something else (Genuine VW, not chinese copy) off eBay (for fraction of the price quoted by Australian dealerships) and fit it in myself or go to a local VW mechanic - will VW dealership have any issues with me and refuse to service my car or fix it under warranty if there are any problems?
Second question: If I use a local VW mechanic for regular services, are they authorised to put an official stamp in the VW log-book saying that the car went through compulsory service (15,000km, 30,000km etc) and would it void warranty or have any consequences if I were to do my next service at VW dealership or do I have to do all services at dealership?
I read that some people are servicing their cars by local mechanics and go to a dealership only for warranty repair... Is that correct and is it ok ?
The bottom line: What actions done by me would void VW warranty ?

Nothing will void the warranty as such but if you install a RCD510 you purchased off a guy in the pub and start having weird electrical problems and they attribute it to the RCD510 you will have to pay for the repair, same if the install is performed incorrectly and part of the harness is damaged.
It's just common sense, if you take the car to somewhere like ultratune some of your warranty claims will be looked at in more detail then if you get your servicing done at a VW dealer not to mention you get the goodwill of having the place that services your car repairing your car.
Any mechanic can put their stamp in the book but if they haven't done something correctly like used the wrong oil you can forget about warranty and they could go as far as to say any engine claims now and in the future will not be covered by warranty. The onus may be placed on you or the mechanic to prove that the correct oil was used for example if VW test the oil and find it's not an approved one.

If any part/s that you or your mechanic install results in damage or malfunction of your vehicle, then VW may deny any warranty claim made by you or transfer to cost of repairs onto you.
Any workshop can, using their own stamp of course - they can't just nick the VW dealers' stamp and use that, you know?
As long as genuine parts are used (that also goes for oil - VW approved only!) and the service is carried out competently, I don't foresee any issues in regards to warranty.

This question has been asked numerous times all over this forum. The term "void your warranty" is used all over the place. But the fact is, it is not legal for a company to "void your warranty", and if they do, you just go to your relevant consumer association for your state and raise a formal complaint.
A manufacturer IS allowed to deny warranty work on parts which they did not supply or install, or for any fault caused by a part that they did not install, or from actions (or in actions) of the owner.
So if you do not service your car to the guidelines in the service booklet, they could deny a warranty claim if you then have an engine fault. Or if you lower your car to 5cm off the ground with suspension running on the bump stops and you crack a suspension mount, they might deny that warranty claim etc.

Every reputable workshop has insurance, just in case that something goes wrong. Dealers do stuff up as well from time to time.

I can't think of how many times this question has been posed and answered on this forum... Can we make the 'SEARCH' option larger with and flashing so that other people can see it??
I understand the concerns of the IP, but the option is there to look first...
