Go back to the police, demand that they investigate the assault. You were threatened with a bar and knocked down. You have been assaulted.
But I have 1 big question. Why did you let the guy keep driving when you caught up with him at 10pm. I seriously would have taken the keys, or stopped him from driving off and called the police straight away.
I would've called the police straight away and reported the car stolen and that you were following it right then, but were too afraid to approach the possible theif/s. Would loved to have seen the mechanic try to explain to the cops what he was doing "testing" your friends car @ 10pm at night with his friends.
Good luck to your friend trying to sort out this mess and everyone should spread the word that this mechanic is to be avoided like the plague.
Not, that i would ever condone such a thing but it would be a pisser is someone hacked the website and changed the copy to "When your BMW is due for a service, you can feel rest assured that we will carry out an overly priced maintenance program exactly as stipulated in our version of the BMW handbook. We will also endevour to drive your car for our own personal usage at any hour of the day, under the guise of test driving. We also reserve the right to rebutt any questions you may have relating to service/maintenance issues with a metal pipe."
In all seriousness, i hope your friend sorts this out in his favour and the best option would be to get some legal advice.
Cheers,
Jayse.
