Hahahahahahaha!!! More talk of the BS "world engine" for Formula 1. NEVER going to happen. All the top teams will simply pull out and start their own series as has nearly happened before... "Formula 1" might technically still exist, but as a small shrivelled up, pathetic version of what it once was. The real action will be wherever the top teams are.

Reality is, in order to keep interest in top model exotics, we need top level cars and they need to be racing at the highest level... Not just little 4cyl buzz boxes.

Couldn't agree more, F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport and a 1.5 4cyl isn't an inspiring engine, unless they go up to 1500bhp again but i can't see that being allowed.

I reckon they should give the teams free reign to do what they want and see what they come up with. At least then all the cars wouldn't look the same!

To a certain extent they do and the cars all look different - some of them, very different and I don't just mean colour.

Problem with unlimited rules is the teams that can spend the most money end up dominating. You need to set rules but so that teams have free reign within those rules - which is essentially what they do now. The rules often make innovation more advanced as they're forced to sometimes really think outside the box. Like when McLaren came up with the rear wing stalling mechanism. It's not an aerodynamic component because it doesn't react to the air as it's driving along. Essentially what they ended up doing was manipulating the air that hits the rear with without using an aerodynamic component which means less drag in a straight line and maintaining downforce in a straight line.

You saw it first in fighter jets, then in Formula 1 cars and think of the benefits to highway driving if a similar system could be used to reduce drag on the car at higher speeds. That's the general transition of tech to street cars - aerospace, F1, other racing cars, street cars.
