Car is at dealer at the moment getting steering column lock module replaced and asked them to look at tail light. They said Allianz had declined as this item is no longer covered under std VW warranty. I replied why did they replace the other one previously? They replied it was a mistake.
Quesiton is has the VW warranty changed recently? Surely the extended warranty should cover the same provisions as when it was taken out, not recent exclusions. I have not been notified of any changes either? Dealer offered to do tail light for $250 at cost price but have declined for the moment. Text below from VW website. I can see the point of consumable items inc light globes that can be easily changed, but the LED's in the tail ligth I thought were designed to last for a long time. What if on your 2 month old car a Xenon globe or LED tail light fails. Is this then a consumable?

What the customer must pay for
The Volkswagen New Vehicle Warranty does not cover the costs of routine maintenance of your vehicle. You must pay for:
(i) Prescribed maintenance and service adjustments to your vehicle and parts or fluids used in connection with these.
(ii) Wheel alignments and wheel balancing and other adjustments relating to normal wear and tear.
(iii) Any parts that wear out as part of their normal operation (e.g. clutch linings, brake discs and pads, brake linings, wiper blades, globes of all types (including Bi Xeon and LED), fuses, trims brakes, diesel particulate filters, catalytic converters, all belts, tyres, wiper blades, spark plugs, filters, Satellite Navigation update disks and all other parts of your vehicle that have been subject to normal wear and tear).
(iv) Damage to DVD /Navigation units caused by misuse or using copied CDs or DVDs.
Well as you posted it quite plainly excludes LED's.
However I would think on a very newish car they may do something for you as under consumer law things are supposed to last for a reasonable time.
