VW Warranty Changes? - Allianz Extended Warranty Please Help

Cut a long story short on my B6 Wagon on one of the rear tail lights some of the LED's have failed on the inner and outer ring. The RHS side one did the same thing and was replaced under the extended warranty approx a year ago.

Car is at dealer at the moment getting steering column lock module replaced and asked them to look at tail light. They said Allianz had declined as this item is no longer covered under std VW warranty. I replied why did they replace the other one previously? They replied it was a mistake.

Quesiton is has the VW warranty changed recently? Surely the extended warranty should cover the same provisions as when it was taken out, not recent exclusions. I have not been notified of any changes either? Dealer offered to do tail light for $250 at cost price but have declined for the moment. Text below from VW website. I can see the point of consumable items inc light globes that can be easily changed, but the LED's in the tail ligth I thought were designed to last for a long time. What if on your 2 month old car a Xenon globe or LED tail light fails. Is this then a consumable?

    Text below:

What the customer must pay for

The Volkswagen New Vehicle Warranty does not cover the costs of routine maintenance of your vehicle. You must pay for:

    (i) Prescribed maintenance and service adjustments to your vehicle and parts or fluids used in connection with these.

(ii) Wheel alignments and wheel balancing and other adjustments relating to normal wear and tear.

(iii) Any parts that wear out as part of their normal operation (e.g. clutch linings, brake discs and pads, brake linings, wiper blades, globes of all types (including Bi Xeon and LED), fuses, trims brakes, diesel particulate filters, catalytic converters, all belts, tyres, wiper blades, spark plugs, filters, Satellite Navigation update disks and all other parts of your vehicle that have been subject to normal wear and tear).

(iv) Damage to DVD /Navigation units caused by misuse or using copied CDs or DVDs.

Well as you posted it quite plainly excludes LED's.

However I would think on a very newish car they may do something for you as under consumer law things are supposed to last for a reasonable time.

Agree at approx $500 a globe for Xenon's I dare say they would be reasonable with this and help/warrant in any way possible, LED's on the other hand, perhaps not... Allianz have always been like that though....

if you think you are being dealt with unfairly the insurance ombudsman would be the place to ask.
google; Allianz & Hitler if you want to know what to expect from Allianz.

So nearly a year on, what was the outcome?

One can purchase a pair of Philips or Osram (two of the biggest OE suppliers) gas-discharge bulbs on eBay for less than $200 delivered (more if bought from an e-commerce website).

There is absolutely no reason to buy light globes from a dealer unless it's rare size or fitment.

An insurance firm that doesn't have past associations with the Third Reich is not at all likely to offer a better deal for the policy holder compared to an insurance firm that did.

In any case, Third Reich associations or otherwise, all insurance firms are *****.

Apart from that, it's also another reason why I'd never willingly fit an LED lighting assembly (front or rear) on a car, unless one is handy with a soldering iron.

Of course, if we're using past associations with regimes linked to human rights abuses as indicators of a company or corporation's integrity, then shouldn't we all stop purchasing vehicles that have anything to do with the Volkswagen Group as well? Or on a more broader scale, stop purchasing and supporting goods produced in China? And so the list goes on...

Seriously? What other connections between WW2 and insurance policies are there, wait, let me get my tin foil hat.
