    VW Parts in Australia

Had a conversation today with VWA as my car enters its 3rd week in dealer and still no sign of the water-pump. VWA customer service said that VWA are not responsible for supplying VW spare parts to its dealers and dealers sourced their own parts, but Customer service thought it may have been a single supplier though ?

So who actually supplies the parts then or do we need to select the dealers depending on their access to spare parts ?

    Um, ok.

The dealers source their parts through Volkswagen Australia via their parts warehouses.

If there's nil stock in Australia, the parts are sourced from other warehouses internationally. The main ones for Australia being Singapore and Germany.

Given the high markup and short life of the cheap and nasty pumps most Euro makers use, you'd think VWA would have them coming out their ears...

There's probably more to the story than that particular dealership is letting on.

From previous experiance, a mis-typed part number in the system, or a need to clarify from the warehouse can delay the order until it's resolved.

Finally got a reasonable explanation from the dealer, rather than the incredulous version given by VWA. The dealer explained that the water-pumps they were waiting for, where in fact a revised water-pump with a new part number. VW had issued a notice that all the GTIs which needed a replacement pump should be fitted with the new pumps and that the existing stock of water-pumps the dealer had in stock, was to be returned to VW. ..and at least I got my car back today.
