    VW "Free Service"

Did anyone else buy their Mk VII during the VW Free Servicing offer period and now getting hit up for brake fluid and pollen filters at the 2 year service?

Free would mean a free "A" level service for most car manufacturers.

Ford does same (though my 12 monthly "A" level services aren't free like yours (!), but capped at $300 or something like that) - which is not bad since I used to pay 2 lots of servicing for an older turbo car which added up to way over $300 per 12 month period, but I digress).

An "A" level service does not include brake fluid / pollen filter. Ford has also informed me that I'd need to also need to change brake fluid at the 2 year mark at an additional cost.

They are just upselling to get some cash out of you. Although I am not against changing the brake fluid - I'd probably do this myself with some race brake fluid at my local workshop. You can also buy your own pollen filter from ebay for $20 and you're good to go for another 24 months.

Pollen filter and brake fluid are time-dependant.

Ford's fixed fee servicing *extras* are worded in the following way:

For example, in the event that brake fluid needs to be replaced (every two years) an additional charge of $80 will apply or if the radiator coolant needs to be replaced (between every 3 - 10 years depending on the model) an additional charge of $180 will apply.

I suggest reading up on the VW's fixed / free servicing terms and conditions to ascertain whether you can delay brake fluid/pollen filter.
