From my dealings, Austral VW are dead set muppets
Going back to the VW customer care side, I have to say that IMO the bigger the presence of a company the less care is given to the consumer. And when the smaller the presence of a company the more care is given to the consumer. My experience with VW was much like Shepp's only with a Polo TDI DSG (DSG was fried - warped clutch plates - in the end). Apparantly I was at fault for the broken DSG @ 700kms and then again, except this time fully broken @ 1450kms. Customer care was non-existant for VWA or the dealership (this time I won't name and shame but I will say it was a brisbane dealership). The only helpful people was the salesman who offered me free lifts where ever I wanted to go because no loan car was offerred to me. Also one of the mechanics in the service centre who came with me on two occassion to find the DSG still had problems was helpful as well as he was fighting VW for me and actually explained to the service centre people that the gearbox was broken. But all of that was ignored and when I went to give a gift the mechanic after I traded the vehicle for a DS3 he explained that the salesman who dealt with me had lost his job because he was too nice for a salesman.
All in all though even though Citroen has a far smaller presence in Australia, I have found them particularly helpful and very, very nice. And some people call me crazy for saying I would consider another VW but it would have to be a non-DSG7 and not bought at the dealership where I got my polo.

I just had my 30,000 service done at Central Coast Motor Group.
I was driven back to work in the courtesy van. I told them I needed it back by late morning. It was ready in time.
I was picked up again, driven back to the dealership and was presented with a very clean (not just a half hearted wipe over) Golf R. even the gaps on the spokes of the alloys were cleaned.
Just saying, so far so good.
