Well... I have my car back, just over four weeks after it failed. It took the dealer at Port Macquarie (they are very good) one hour to diagnose, repair and recode the car. The cause of my car being off the road for four weeks, the inability of my local dealer in the Country Music Capital to diagnose a blown ECM fuse.... So a thumbs up to Patricks, who were the only people who helped me out (thanks Martin), and to John Oxley Motors at Port Macquarie.... big THUMBS down to the delaer in Tamworth who charged Patricks $2000 for 18 hours of diagnosis, and were about to start replacing computers in my car, and then would not release my car until Patricks paid the $2000, only to find out a fuse had blown. Not Patricks fault but a WARRANTY Issue. Thumbs down to VW Customer Care who to this day have not phoned me back to let me know what is happening with my car - despite undertaking to have my problem rectified...
So hope this post helps the thumbs up and thumbs down arguement, I gave some of each. I think VW Australia need to be a little more concerned with the quality and training of their dealers. A bit of old fashioned Quality Assurance would be good. You need to go back to your German Heratige and take note of their pride in quality.
My VW Passat FSI 3.6 has now been renamed "The Trouble Maker"... Nice to have her back - she is a sweet ride.

I took my car to the dealer this morning and they tell me that I am not the only one with this problem. According to technical dept at VWA, it is the Haldex that is acting up.
They say it will be all good to go tomorrow arvo, so I'll report back with the final result.
I'm so glad its not the DSG.

Well, they have had the car for 2 days and it is not yet fixed. I don't blame the dealer as they tell me that there was a lot of dialogue and head scratching on the part of VWA.
There has also been another R driver who has reported the exact same problem with my dealer. The only thing that I'm worried about is the comment from the service advisor that VW are not sure whether to begin a replacement process or maybe it is just a feature ??? that could be normal???? and replacing the Haldex will not fix the problem.
Upshot is, they will contact me once VWA have made their decision as to what, if any action they will take. Not happy.
My understanding was that the Tamworth dealer didn't want to sell him a car (crap service, ignored in the showroom, unrealistic pricing, rudeness?), so he organised the vehicle through another dealer & organised Patricks to deliver the vehicle to the dealer in Tamworth - something complicated like that.
Personally, I would have flown to the other dealer & driven the vehicle home but i assume circumstances didn't permit that.
Apart from being technically incompetant, I'd guess having the vehicle delivered to the dealership would have rubbed salt into a few wounds in the sales department.
maybe I've misunderstood though......

I now have a video of my friendly VW dealer test driving my car. Driver and passenger on board, ignoring a STOP sign and laughing as they ride over a kerb.
I am about to explode with anger, justified?
