If you want to sell the car on and are getting a RWC, would you need to have the car brought in for the recall to get it to comply? Would it technically fail getting a RWC? I mean, it is operating "normally" from when the car was manufactured, but does this change everything?

Don't know. I have not found any formal advice on that yet.

I believe the authorities are waiting on technical details from VW before they make a ruling (probably waiting on CARB and the Europeans to make rulings that we will just follow). I would assume if the ruling is that the recall action must be taken to get an RWC then the recall would become mandatory (ie vehicle is not roadworthy/safe therefore mandatory recall). Things will get very interesting in terms of the legal class action and our rights under the Trade Practices Act.

Volkswagen says (Volkswagen Australia Diesel Emissions News & Information)
"Final testing of the remedies is underway with the aim to have no adverse effects on engine output or fuel economy."

As anticipated, in Australia with our reasonable fuel quality (as compared with USA), there will probably be little issue with performance or economy. Will have to see the numbers when the proper fix is released.

The class action doesn't look so appealing.....

We have to wait to the dust (read misinformation from major stakeholders) settles on this before anyone really knows what is happening.

And as for claims about the number of people killed we should lock up all owners of LandCruisers and Hiluxes, they're mass murderers!

Last night was reading in a german car magazine the results of the first recalls of Dieselgate in Germany. Both were Amaroks and were tested before and after software update. Results came back that engine performed slightly better with of up to 7HP in one and 3HP gain in the other with torque going up to additional 9Nm. Also sprint times improved slightly. On the downside fuel consumption increased by 0,5 to 0,7 liters per 100km. But they expect that increase in fuel consumption would be less on other models as they are smaller, lighter and more aerodynamic than the Amarok. Emissions throught the post-update test remained stable as they should have been in the first place. Maybe not all bad news so far.

They're effectively saying that the EU emissions legislators were in their pocket all along......and judging by recent legislative changes, they still are.
