But hey, if measurement of air temp is so critical what happens if driving in Darwin summertime, then later At Thredbo in winter? Can the software map cope with such dramatic changes?
Or, for that matter, New York in winter and Texas in summer
Yes. This is actually quite easy. High temperatures mean less air density which, for the same throttle opening, less fuel is injected. And vice versa

Just calm down! If someone post up the link to his theory, it doesn't mean he is 100% correct or whatever in the links is correct.

Have you ever noticed that often the truth and all that surrounds it is found several years later?

From what you've posted about you, and since you keep your cars for over 10 years, I don't get why the resale value bothers you?

No common car has a resale value of 50% after 13 years.

Based on a limited sample size of 1, I'd have to agree with that comment. When I bought my Tiguan in November 2014, well before the scandal, it still had the original purchase invoice in the glovebox. It cost a little over $46,000 in early 2011, and after a little under four years and with 53,000km on the clock I paid $23,000 including the trade of my ancient and well worn Subaru Forester. That's 50% in just four years.

Cmon guys whilst this is certainly an emotive topic, lets try and keep things civil lest the ban hammer start to make an appearance.
It would be a very sad outcome to have to start sanctioning people on this forum as at the end of the day, we're all in this together.

All VAG vehicles are being tarnished by this sorry state of affairs whether they are directly affected or not, so lets keep the conversation lively and entertaining without resorting to bickering.

Well look at it this way, local dealers are taking a drop in commission as sales take a dive (temporarily). VWA have implied they will not discount their way out of this mess with new car prices. My local dealer informed me he was upset and his family were suffering also by lost income and possibly the potential loss of employment.

On a brighter note the new Tiguan to be released next year looks good, the Golf Wagon R & Alltrack are fantastic vehicles so I will not be swayed away but with a preference for a new Diesel Tiguan especially the higher powered diesels on offer, I'd expect VWA to offer a lousy engine variants owing to Diesel gate, we'll wait and see.

If VWG don't realise that their customer rating is now crap and do something about it fast, they'll never catch Mazda or Toyota in sales. They make the best cars VW/Audi/Skoda but give Australia a pathetic option list (especially the Touareg). Paul Gover has even stated the best small car on the market is the Golf 7 and I heard sales are booming on the petrol model, so VW need to end this Class Action quickly world wide as the longer it drags on the worse buyers confidence will be.

I asked the local dealer to feed back to Germany his customers complaints as a matter of urgency. VWG should immediately back their cars with 5 year warranty. This would mean dealers would get more cars back for servicing over that period and make more money on parts which is where auto makers now make their tidy profits, ask any panel beater!

This Dieselgate has already provided for a film, story for the business world of books and no doubt set a precedence in the legal history of class actions.

I'm just about to submit to the MB action, owning 3 VWs and looking at a new one, this is going to be an interesting next 12 months of the DAS AUTO!

It's not solely about economic loss. This is a misrepresentation case.

If the misrepresentation were innocent i.e. Volkswagen had no idea about this "cheat device" then owners would be entitled to compensation to restore themselves to the position they would've been in had the misrepresentation not occurred. Effectively, compensation for drop in value only, as you imply.

This is fraudulent misrepresentation - Volkswagen represented these vehicles to be something (low emissions) that they were not. As such, owners are entitled to the economic compensation as per innocent representation, plus some "compensation" for being defrauded - the fear, the anguish, the night-sweats, bed-wetting, marital break-down and shortened life expectancy. From memory, this additional compensation is also intended as a punitive measure against the perpetrator of the fraud, and probably a deterrent for others considering something similar (not that fraudsters ever learn - they never expect to be caught).

The estimate of $7k - $10k per vehicle is what Volkswagen may be directed to pay; the lawyers are likely to take some of that, depending on how much of their costs Volkswagen are also directed to pay. It won't all go to owners.

Personally, I'll be happy with compensation for drop in value - to date, I guesstimate it's about $3000 (10-15% of $24k-$26k). If I get offered more, why wouldn't I take it?

All this quoted information was gleaned from the internet.. SO IT MUST BE TRUE. Yeah Right.

93 pages of supposition an innuendo and no one really knows the truth or whats going to happen as a result.

Why not take a chill pill and wait and see. Working yourself Frantic and into a frenzy over what may or may not happen is not going to solve anything.

With lawyers costs estimated north of $6,000,000 they will probably need to get more that $10,000 each and nowhere have I seen that figure being touted as a prospective settlement figure

    More maybe misleading supposition.

You're right, now suddenly I see more Defenders on the road than Corollas or others. How could I be so blind? I don't know?

Now, seriously, if you post the same stuff again and again, I will start moderating the posts that have the same info in them. Not just from you, also from others.

I personally am not expecting any negative value with fix.

Maurice Blackburn needs people to sign up before they know what the "fix" and VW's compensation might actually be. Otherwise, they may not get any money for their preliminary work if they end up with no case.

VW I expect has expensive lawyers who will be giving them advice on how to avoid compensation payouts, because that is a cost with no value to the company. VW will be more likely to spend money to keep customers happy and loyal, especially where this is "paper money" which costs much less to VW to give than real money compensation.

On the radio early on, the MB lawyer suggested that it was the "lead applicant" in the class action that was committed to paying the costs of the action. Presumably, in reality, they try to get everyone to ante up a bit.

In all legal matters the only certainty comes with a settlement by negotiation or a court judgement which will take years.
