looks like mk7 2.0 motor .. wonder if the mk6 2.0 motor is affected .. my guess is .. YES ! (i.e. my mk2 VRS Octavia).

This explains why dynos get such high readings from these motors in stock form.

I thought CO2 emissions were directly associated with the quantity of fuel burned - a function of relative economy.
Combustion temps are not the problem like diesel so how would they fake CO2/fuel consumed relationship during the test cycle?.

They faked their fuel consumption test by according to the article, overinflating tyres(this will reduce drag and was an old salesman trick for non power steering cars , but it would increase the risk of a blowout causing a crash and potentially permanently damage the tyre depending upon the pressures reached ), and reducing the oil thickness by putting in diesel with the oil. This would have the potential to damage the engine a fair bit. I wonder if they had a third ECU program for fuel efficiency with a specific activation code?
Also you gotta feel sorry for the poor sod who bought the "factory demonstrator" models as they have a 1/2 rooted engine and potentially stuffed tyres!

Pumping up the tyres and thin oil is not the least like a scandal as an switchable ECU cheat is.

According to the Financial Times, if VW's re-testing of those affected vehicles reveals that CO2 emissions have been understated by more than 10%, then customers will have the opportunity to sell their cars back to VW at the current market value.


Dealer correspondence leaked to Autocar shows that in response to concerns from VW’s British sales network, the company is going to top up any discounts offered to existing customers trading in a VW of any age with a further cash incentive - £400 on the Up city car, rising to £1000 on the Golf and Passat, and £1500 on the Touareg and Sharan.

I have sparred with frantic more than most, and while I believe that the accuracy of some his claims is suspect and his manner a little more robust than what I usually see on VWW, I disagree with Elmura's call to have him banned. It is always worthwhile having alternate voices in the mix of discussion. If he is banned, that will send a message to all others who agree either fully or partially with his views that they are not welcome here, and then the discussion will the one sided and dull in the extreme.
