Volkswagen’s rolled out much of the details of its “Goodwill Program” in the wake of Dieselgate, as it hopes to somewhat soothe the feelings of people who bought cars with afflicted 2.0-liter diesel engines from the company.

A stupidly sarcastic article, but what do you expect from the cool hipsters at Jalopnik. Despite the fact that my Tiguan is NOT "notoriously unreliable", I wouldn't be unhappy with the 3 years of 24 hour roadside assistance.

An interesting offer to buy some time while they get their house in order and offer a final fix. The cynic in my also says that in any class action that might happen they get to point to their good will.

Now Roadside may or may not be used, but for people who are otherwise paying for it might actually see a real saving.
BUT for VW they potentially also get people who might just renew at the end of that period too... call it a loss leading market approach that's not likely to cost them very much.

The $500 dealership voucher. Let face it, parts are sold at a mark up therefore the actual cost to VW is less. As above it may very well bring people back to the dealership and some may stay. Are there exclusions on what you can use it for? Can I just buy $500 worth of windscreen wipers and walk away?

The Cash. Well that's cash, but just like any gift vouchers there would be a percentage of people who never get around to using them at all as well as all those people with $3.95 left on the card they don't bother trying to use.

What that means to Australians?? At this point nothing and until the Aussie arm tell anyone anything it's all suposition and wishful thinking.

Those who are in the unfortunate position of having to change their vehicle for one of many reasons don't have the luxury of sitting on their hands.......they need a bailout offer now.

Hillbilly, Much of the fun in life is in the journey, not just reaching the destination. I for one am happy with the banter, opinions, lies and truths, and the best part is they won't change the outcome one little bit.

I don't know if I should be surprised or not that we don't have some sort of official results already. I mean if it's such a big deal, wouldn't you think the officials would be straight on to it, confirming if the backyard test mob are correct and by how much? I know VW have admitted to cheating but as others have said the media is running away with it and I believe that's partly because we don't have exact confirmed figures.

And while we are on that, why aren't we seeing the same for the other manufactures that were also over?

    Happy Days
