Yeh, It surprises me they found other manufactures couldn't meet the standards either. The others haven't taken their vehicles off the market and no body is blinking an eye. VW are doing their best to do the right thing and the media are still smashing them.

Vw didn't remove their vehicles from the market out of the goodness of their heart. They were forced to.

Theres no such thing as bad publicity?

Perhaps US buyers are happier to buy a VW over another make where the airbag may deploy at any time?

    Who knows

They are selling a ton of golfs it would seem.

VW US sales rise despite scandal - BBC News

Sales of the company's Golf line increased 40.2% compared to October last year. The Jetta and the Beetle, though, both took hits with sales decreasing 41.5% and 34.1% respectively.
Other US car companies reported double digit gains. GM rose 16% and sales of Ford rose 13% in October.

That article has closer to answers for the diesels:
VW's UK boss Paul Willis has confirmed the 1.2-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines will require a software fix, while vehicles with a 1.6-litre diesel will also need new injectors fitted. [...]

While UK vehicles look to get by with software tweaks and injector swaps, vehicles in the US may be in need of physical changes to the catalytic converters and/or the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) AdBlue urea injection systems.

Maybe it's just easier for VW to come out and say which models AREN'T affected instead of the ones that ARE.... Just sayin'.

1981 Honda Civic hatch. Proper AUTO REVERSE cassette player. AM/FM with Stereo speakers. Four (yep, FOUR!) speed manual. Full cloth trim seats. HALOGEN lightbulbs! Factory options fitted: rear wipers and washer, "Go Fast" wheel covers & electric front windows.

You can bet that no VW owner will be wanting to pay to have adblue refills either. Mazda rorted Oz customers locally with what they charged for it. A lot of owners started to buy it from servos and add it in themselves as it was drastically cheaper, so that is saying something. I can recall an apprentice at a far North QLD dealer putting the adblue into a brand new CX9 fuel tank.....the owner asked for a completely new car.
