Does that mean we need to sign up with that law firm? Or being a VW diesel owner I'm part of it already?

You don't need to register with that particular law firm, but you must register with a law firm that is mounting a class action. You can only register for one law firm's class action, not multiple class actions with multiple firms.

    Hi everyone,

I am senior solicitor at Bannister Law. We have commenced the class action against VW. For further information, have a look at:

Official VW Class Action | Register your Interest | Australia

Because you own a diesel vehicle doesn't mean you are included. You must register with a firm and we are the only firm to have taken these first steps.

AFAIK, MB have not filed any cases as yet on the matter.

Would you need to have the fix applied to you vehicle to get compensation? I would think that unless you do that you will not have been aggrieved, and so you could not claim any redress of that grievance. Therefore, does joining the class action force your hand to make a decision to get your car "fixed"?

VW, Porsche, Audi 3.0-liter diesels also have 'defeat devices,' EPA says

So, how long before petrol VAG's get scrutinised ....

    VAG - bad form.

I feel for the dealers having to sort this mess out, if they can

No the two, in so far as the situation is at present, are not related. The mere fact that they sold you a vehicle that did not meet the required standards is enough for compensation - that is our argument. Its still very early days and its not known how VW etc will view these claims.

Really they'll either try and defend the cases or try and settle all of them. The best thing to do is to register and you will be given updates as to how it progresses. I don't own a diesel, but i'm fairly certain the value of the defective vehicle will plummet in the market.
