At this point I think everyone is picking numbers out of the air. AFAIK there is no proposed fix or campaign set in motion just yet. There are lots of "options" that we can guess at including engine mapping, replacement, buyback and I'm sure lots more. Until there is some clarity no one will know what the impact will be or even begin to think of what comes next.

Yes, I am pulling these numbers out of the air, but I'm talking about a change against the totality of the car. If you calculated your 20% increase in fuel consumption over the remainder of your ownership of the car as a change against every aspect of the car (looks, comfort, performance, utility, etc), it would be a very small increase indeed.

Yep. Would have pursued it but it was being run on a company fuel card. It was a pain having to fill up earlier.

Vested interests. The folks defending VW's conduct and actions should come clean and preface their comments (or at least declare their financial/business interests in servicing/parts supply etc for VW vehicles in their signatures at the bottom of their comments).

You should have seen how they were defending VW over dsg issues before and during the recall. It was ridiculous.

To think that the negative press has not had a detrimental effect on resale value is to be naive regardless of all the other factors you mentioned. Don't take my word for it. It's already affecting posters in the US with dealers giving ridiculously low trade in values on TDI vehicles specifically.

I do not think those price drops are coincidence considering all the other things around resale.

Only if the EGR, in particular, NEVER needs replacing whilst it's in your ownership......otherwise those 'economy' figures don't add up.
Not a problem for a business 'write off' of course.....like all business 'costs' , they are passed on the the consumer.
Thats why a 'declaration of confidence' from VW is so important.

Additionally, I am not condoning VW engineers buy rather am fed up with the hysteria, whingers & free loaders tarnishing a good brand & great value product.

That said, consider this:
1. To prove loss in resale value, you'll need to have sold the car post scandal; proven that the resale was lower than before the scandal by greater than the usual drop due to age, km, condition; & provide evidence of these factors
2. Any future increase in fuel consumption or cost of adblue post "fix" can be offset against the years of lower running costs prior to the fix.
3. You are not legally required to implement the recall. You have a choice!

Those who have the advantage of being able to write off VW's failures are not in the same space as the average punter......giving THEM a lecture is a bit rich......they would benefit more with a longer warranty than you would also.

My VW is not a company car... Your accusation is moot. My wife drives it majority of the time. I purchased an extended warranty months ago.

If it's a great value product then it has to make economic sense over the long term particularly if it's a diesel.....the question no one want to answer is why is VW only prepared to back their own product for the industry minimum, these days, of 3 years/100K......not much more than run in timer for a diesel.......answer ....it's the ancillaries and VW aren't sure that they WILL last.
