As I understand it, your MkVI would only need to be Euro 5 compliant in jurisdictions where Euro 5 was required at the time of its manufacture, or perhaps importation (let's say manufacture for ease of understanding). Therefore, if it was built before 1/11/13 it only needs to be Euro 4 compliant in Australia, even if it was required to be Euro 5 compliant in Europe at the time. However, it's all academic really. If your model is a pre-1/11/13 Class II car, it must have NOx emissions lower than 0.33g/km; but it looks from the tests undertaken by the Center for Alternative Fuels, neither of the VWs came close to meeting that value, let alone the more stringent Euro 5 standards which they were supposedly built to meet.
