    So, you say.
Please, just use the threads that already exist in the general section for this kind of discussions.

Yeah its definitely more than a storm in a teacup, at least in the US.
There is a good overview article on Jalopnik

Could largely spell the end of small diesel passenger cars in the US, a huge hit to VW's reputation worldwide as well as huge financial and possibly criminal penalties.

Seems like a huge gamble to have taken to push small capacity diesels in the US market. All to reach a price point (isn't everything?) by omitting a diesel exhaust fluid injection system...

Be interesting to see how VWA handle this...will it be a head in the sand approach like the DQ200 issue - 'That only applies to overseas markets.....I mean sorry, yeah they all suck...'

Chances are it will be the way they have always handled complaints..."standard for that type of vehicle".

I seem to recall in Europe there is a requirement to "Add Blue"
I assume This requires a separate tank for this additive?
Plus the added problem where to obtain this wonderful fluid!
After all, this problem affects All small diesels. Not just VW
But in America the requirement to top up with a special additive would cause a
    tremendous logistical problem regarding supply.

VW Says 11 Million Vehicles Have The “Defeat Device”, Will Spend €6.5 Billion To Fix Them

I think most people by the diesel for the range not the emissions standards.
Either way this is going to cost VW a lot of $$.

I would have thought most people here would be happy if VW hobbled the EGR in their vehicles.

But yeah, VW are going to get nailed with a big fine and recall requirements for ECU updates which will then annoy all the vehicle owners who find their car suddenly uses more fuel and performs less well

I think it merits a thread of its own as it had become a major issue, but happy to discuss elsewhere if a thread already exists

Is there any inclination for any investigation in Australia?

To early to make any judgment on the issue.
I haven't heard what percentage it was above national regulations for the appropriate country.
Things need to be more clearer in those areas firstly. Possibly Australia's EPA requirements are already being met by VW? Even though guilt has ready been admitted by Volkswagen for tampering with software we all need to know what actual readings were.
