I was like, yeah... ok buddy. I mean seriously, now is NOT the time for arrogance.
Two contacts in the automotive business. One is senior advisor to one of the trilogy in question. I've seen the canned statement. There is no mention of "what the fix might be". It merely states they're aware and union advice from VW AG there will be a service campaign of sorts. And it highlights not to deviate from said script

That. VW service advisor is talking out of his rear.

Doesn't work for me — all I get is "please enter a valid VIN"

Makes me wonder what VW actually sold me....

It looks like a Golf diesel Highline, drives like a Golf diesel Highline, sounds like a Golf diesel Highline — but is it?

    Worked for me.

I botched the vin at my first go though, so maybe you might've inadvertently done the same?

Absolutely correct, but planting trees, donating to Greenpeace, or becoming carbon neutral will be VW way of atoning for their environmental sins. It will not be a direct cause and fix relationship as I am not aware of removing NOx from the air.

It is all about the PR spin they can get away with.

Even tried scanning it off the door sticker — same result.

As a matter of interest, the UK site gives me the same answer.

Not much worried anyway — it gets serviced in a week or two so I'll have time to decide whether I trust VW enough to let them fiddle with it.

For this month in the U.S. customers are offered a $2000 loyalty bonus.
so they've set a precedent and as such I expect that will be their global response to, and acknowledgement of, reduced resale values.
