I've had the mech replaced in both cars, a number of warranty faults fixed on the GTI, so yes, I'll crow as much as I want (and I'll continue to buy VWs)

In the same way you wouldn't buy another Ford (based on your observations or experiences), there are those who would never buy another Volkswagen (based on their observations or experiences).
I don't bitch and moan on the Ford forums, I take action and make a decision (already have with the Ford)

As for others not buying another VW, what is new in the car ownership world. Happens across the brands.

It was head office Ford's piss arse customer service and atrocious behaviour that brought me to that decision, so yes, I will.

In contrast, head office VW have been fantastic for warranty claims I've made and in fact two goodwill repairs.

I have discussed this same issue with friends.

    Think carefully.

Volkswagen is based in Wolfsburg, Germany, with a population of 120,000. That's 1/3 the size of Canberra. If it isn't already obvious, I have little faith in start-stop traffic testing in a city like that.

Compare that with Japanese cities. FYI, I've lived in Japan for 2 years. Let me tell you, that if Japanese car makers can't get start-stop traffic proof cars... no one can! Japan is swarming with Japanese made cars that chug along start-stop traffic everyday. Yes, imagine half of the country in worse than Sydney traffic.

Just to give this a bit of context. Darwin has more people than Wolfsburg.

    Good point.

I've dismissed cars with DQ200. That leaves me with Golf models: TDI and GTI.

TDI: Not really interested in Diesel.

GTI: Too expensive for what you get (sorry I'm one of those people).

I'm left with... maybe a Ford Focus or the new Mazda 3?

So you have only proven Diesel's theory that it depends on your personal experience. Just because you received stellar customer service from VW doesn't mean everyone else has. See what I did there? That's the same argument pro-vdubbers tell me...

He didn't have a theory or any point.

If something doesn't work for you, sort it out (Fiesta is already sold)

What is astonishing is your multiple forum ranting - all that energy would be better used car buying

This is offtopic for this thread but I already have a list of next cars lined up, but I am not ready to sell right now for a number of reasons mainly financial. Bought a new house this year and I would have lost heaps in depreciation if I sell now. Plus, if I wanted a new car as replacement I'd need to fork out another $10k in cash. Bah.

Another reason why I am really annoyed is because I have genuinely done my research prior to buying my car. I have read the DSG and 118TSI problems and repeatedly told myself the same things that half the people in this forum have said: "Only a small percentage are affected", "All cars have problems", "Only people with problems post online", etc. I took those comments in and really believed in them.

Imagine my disapointment when the worst of VW issues actually happened to me.

That's why. No one to blame but me. Why oh why did I bother?

There's really nothing to prevent you from doing so.

Not everyone were as fortunate to have a decent VW ownership experience as you... however, they've stated to the media they're going to address concerns regarding their customer service.

    We shall see.

Unless you're clairvoyant, anyone can end up with a dud, irrespective of make and model - though some are obviously more likely to cause trouble than others (e.g. twincharger engine + 7 speed dry clutch DSG)

Forget the money. In the interests of your health and well-being, my advice would be to get rid of it as soon as it's practicable.

You don't need this in your life.

    Thanks.

It appears to me that some, but not all, MY13 vehicles are affected.

1.6 million unscheduled DSG fluid changes worldwide is a lot of oil (around 3 million litres, or equivalent to 19 000 US oil barrels, give or take) so it may take some time to flow through each region.
