In case it wasn't already on people's minds, don't break down anytime soon. I've got re 'check engine' light on, and most dealers are looking at 2014 before they can schedule me in. Ass-hats.

Just called VW on 1800 607 822. They have a list of all vehicles with the 7 speed DSG that need an oil change. My 3 June 13 built MK7 Golf is not part of the recall thankfully.

I thought the VW DSG is mostly used under licence from BorgWarner? They in turn started a joint venture with Chinese DUI in 2009? I'm not suprised if the Chinese influence has resulted in a slight lack in quality for those particular units compared to VW's long established production lines in other countries.

Let's not forget that VW have pioneered the production DSG since 2003. I think a few teething issues over 10 years was a forgone conclusion really with a new technology application to production cars. I'm glad VW pioneered it. I think perhaps the issues are comparative to Alfa-Romeos problems with longevity on the Robotised 'Selespeed' Gearboxes that they pioneered long before some othe rmanufacturers, and not to forget Saab's issues with the robotised steptronic gearboxes.

At the end of the day we've witnessed VW consistantly setting the benchmark for quality affordable cars since the late 1970's to present and climb from being an insignificant manufacturer to the largerst car manufacturer in the world, and probably will overtake GM as the largest vehicle manufacturer full stop.

Good to see them making a recal where it's due. I recently had my Triumph recalled to replace a problem that's been around since 2006, and they selected to replace the faulty units on all relevant motorcycles since 2006, almost 7 years ago. I think it's good service myself, and it reflects fairly neutrally on them. I don't neccesarily feel that they are a bad manufacturer for making a recall.

I'm in two minds. The issue seems to be from a lack of testing by vw in various conditions. Seriously hot and humid climates with stop start traffic is not common enough to test this during development stage?

By the way LUK technology makes these dq200 7 speed dsg gearboxes not Borg Warner. I wouldn't blame the Chinese either for this recall.

On the other hand I'm glad a recall is done in the first place.

Great - not only are our cars affected by a recall but VW can't even get their story straight. Phone agent says 2013 not affected, ACCC website says 2013 is the only year that is affected??

Looks like my Beetle is one of the affected models - wonder how long it'll take until the recall letter arrives.

That's not what the saying "at the end of the day" is used for.

At the end of the day, a few million cars are getting recalled for DSG problems which have inconvenienced and infuriated thousands. We don't all go and say "oh yeah, VW makes quality cars and have been for years". Again, wrong use of the saying.

Seeing how your car isn't affected by this latest recall, I imagine it would indeed be going great, although it doesn't reflect well to crow about it to other forum members who spent good money on buying an Audi, Skoda or Volkswagen and expecting the same level of satisfaction you're currently experiencing, but are not (through no fault of their own).

In the same way you wouldn't buy another Ford (based on your observations or experiences), there are those who would never buy another Volkswagen (based on their observations or experiences).

Though personally, I wouldn't dismiss an entire marque based on a single model.
