Neither... The DQ200 is dry clutch so there's no oil around the clutches and the mechatronics unit itself is filled with hydraulic fluid and sealed. As I understand it they're replacing the oil that the gears are in.
I really do find it strange that many 2012 models don't seem to be mentioned anywhere.
Audi states october 2012 to April 2013 here:
Audi A1, A3 and TT 2012-2013 7-speed S tronic models > Audi Australia
while Audi states July 2008 and July 2011 here:
Audi A1 and A3 information 2008–2011 models > Audi Australia
I'm also still confused as to whether the oil in the mechatronics is to be changed or is it the oil bathing the clutches themselves to be changed?

The oil that is being replaced is in the MECHATRONICS module.
The gears have separate oil and are in a different part of the transmission to the mechatronics.
It is fully replaced as you cant dip it to see if any is missing It is a complete drain and fill with a designated amount.
I know because I asked for the filter in the tranny to be replaced when they did the recall and was told that the filter and the oil it filters was in a different part of the box and would not be touched during the recall.
The recall invoice has the details of the replaced unit and the oil as well Has been documented earlier in this thread

The clutches are bathed in 1.7 litres of oil. It's a "dry" clutch in that the amount of oil is low compared to traditional gearboxes. Automatics for example can have 5+ litres of oil. Similarly for manuals.
As Hillbily stated this oil is separate from that used for the mechatronic unit which has 1 litre of hydraulic fluid according to VW documents.
I spoke to my dealer who said that the oil was replaced with the mineral type along with the mechatronics as part of the previous DQ200 recall that I had actioned a couple of months ago.
To confirm this I asked VW AU
Relevant part of reply QUOTE" As the vehicle had the voluntary recall service campaign 35C1 completed prior the vehicle will not be affected by the new announcement as the oil in the gearbox has already been replaced."
This was the oil in the MECHATRONIC unit that was replaced
The full details of the recall are here and includes multi years NOT JUST 2012

I again queried if the Mechatronic oil and the "GEARBOX" oil is different as was told by my dealer.
Awaiting a reply

Ok so I asked VW Australia about it and this is the answer I got My next question is why didn't the dealer change the filter as I asked

Further to this our technical team have advised that the mechatronics oil is not changed but the complete mechatronics unit is replaced. The oil that is changed is the gearbox oil/gear oil.
The voluntary recall service campaign 35C1 includes replacing the mechatronics unit and gear oil.
The mechatronics hydraulic oil is inside the component and is completely sealed for life/non serviceable and cannot be drained nor filled.

Maybe because there is no filter to change on the dq200?
