Sum's me up, I wouldn't know the diff either. But having flicked through that mag for a few years now, never thought it was much good anyway. The audi one is the same. The odd article on a new GTI or something is good but nothing you didn't already know by the time the mag was sent out.

Figured it was more advertising and fluff than anything of substance

why doesnt everyone email the editor and explain this stuff to him? most of this info is probably news to him also, plus it helps "update" the magazine

as much as i agree that the picture should reflect the 70's article... the various journos who put the mag together would probably be:

a: the writer who is employed to write
b: the designer who whips the images and text together with the view to an aesthetic result
c: the editor (or his/her underling) who sourced the images for the article

there is a very good chance that none of these people would know the difference between a mk1 and mk2. and none may not even be VW enthusiasts!

when it comes to deadlines very few stories are thoroughly researched anyway. as long as it makes for good reading! often the truth is bent or certain facts left aside to make for a MORE interesting story. my wife is a journo and the things she tells me about what goes on..... whooooooo nelly.

Us early Volkswagen enthusiasts are a sensitive bunch, (nothing compared to the air cooled guys) If the title states Volkswagen in the 70s you would use a 1970s Volkswagen its pretty simple.

As already said not many people know what a mk1 is or even seen one its pretty funny in a way considering its a mass produced car, maybe they used the mk2 because it will relate more to the newer golf rather than a 70s mk1 with steel bumpers (which has way more style imo )

I didn't spot that until the OP brought it up. Must have been that picture of Germaine Greer that scared the crap out of me.

im actually the watercooled writer for this magazine, yes its embarrassing to see, but unfortunately out of my hands, my job is to find cars, and feature them, also another reason why its out of my hands is because he's based in QLD and im in VIC, therefore i cant really see anything else in the mag until it gets published

but some people are incorrect, i know my volkswagen's, its just a shame the majority of reporter's in the mag's are aircooled freaks......

This was in the mag sent out by VWA Dom, not the classier publication you contribute to.
