Nice work hazrd. Total rip-off of the Megane but because I'm so in love with that a$$ I'm willing to overlook it and just admire.

I'd seriously consider the Turbo-charged version but it's going to depend on how long it takes them to get it out here and what price. If it's Polo Gti territory then I think they'd have a winner but I think they'll shoot themselves in the foot if they try and match the Golf Gti on price.

I saw one on the road yesterday. It looks a little freaky but not in a bad way.

    Veloster Turbo specs unveiled

Disappointing final specs from the Veloster Turbo. It will all depend on price but as a performance marque it's disappointing and certainly no threat to the Golf Gti.

Waterford Today - Hyundai reveals Veloster Turbo for Europe

"The Veloster Turbo is the first Hyundai to feature the company's 1,6-litre GDI engine with a high-compression, twin-scroll turbocharger. In European specification, this new T-GDI unit generates 186 ps and 270 Nm of torque. In non-turbocharged form, the Veloster offers 140 ps and 167 Nm.
Maximizing fuel efficiency and performance, the new engine has an air-guided intercooler, direct fuel injection system and dual CVVT, with a bed plate and a serpentine auxiliary belt adopted for enhanced engine reliability. Accelerating from 0-60 mph, Veloster Turbo takes just 8.4 seconds (manual) compared to the 9.7 seconds (manual) of the regular Veloster"

Sounds more like a polo GTI competitor in engine specs but is too big and too heavy. Still, kudos to Hyundai for having a go, the genesis v8 they do for the USA is a fair good bit of kit so give this another couple of years to get a decent power revision, then it could be phenomenal

Slower than my 118TSI in Stock mode (8.0 seconds), compared to the ~6.7 seconds in Stage 1 (depending on temperature, etc).

i can see why people would get it - reliability of the kiundais as of late, contemporary designs, and the interior looks trick and loaded with features.

it'll appeal to many people who want something that "looks" sporty, but who've never pressed on enough to find the limits of their car on a deserted b-road.

chassis though.... from what i've read (eg evo magazine) it's just not there yet, so im guessing next gen for serious competitiveness, if not two gens from now.

mind you, that might not be their M.O. at all - let the marketing department sing "sporty sporty sporty" whist they offload shedpiles of cars with beige performance to masses of people who care more about "standout styling" than how the thing actually drives. (my turn to be captain obvious for the day).

I think you just described Toyota and their clientele. If I get stuck behind another Camry Sportivo driver that freaks out at the sight of a slight corner, and I've had a bad day, I may well go kamikaze on their a$$.
