    Veloster article in SMH

    Revealed: Hyundai's Golf GTI fighter

Nothing new but that first picture makes it look pretty slick in an RS 250 kind of way. Like most hero cars here, I think it's success or failure will come down to its price.

It does look like an interesting beast that's for sure.

I have nothing against Hyundai, we bought an Elantra back in 2000 and for the money it was very well specced, most powerful in it's class at the time and seemed to be reasonably well built... the killer was the 80% depreciation over 5 years we had it :S

Will be interesting to see how this one fares.

At first glance it looks good. Interested to read some time in the future how it handles on the road.

What I find different and perhaps a little weird in the line up is the comment from the article:

"The non-turbo version of the three-door coupe-cum-hatchback, which features an unconventional door layout of one large driver's door and two smaller doors on the kerbside"
Golf R, Rising Blue, 5 Door, DSG and some extra fruit.

It does look way better than when I first saw it in green. Although I don't know how that is meant to be family friendly where as the Golf GTi is.

[edit] Of course the green one was the non turbo version.

Saw the n/a version at a nearby dealer on the weekend. It looked fantastic. It made the new Scirocco, similar colour parked 100m away, look boring. But being a Hyundai the ride and handling will probably be worse than a Corolla and the gearshift feel like stirring yoghurt.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

Gotta admire them for making something special instead of just "some car" - not sure if that one entirely appeals to me though. I prefer the inconspicuous styling of the Golf, so I only become conspicuous if I put the foot down.

If anyone doesn't want to be embarrassed by a Hyundai they better visit an APR dealer (or other equivalent) soon.

Or they could just import the Hyundai Genesis and we would all have a cheap sportscar.

I saw a heap of these while I was in the USA over the last few weeks. A friend of mine has a 2L non turbo, but having heard the sound of both the 2L turbo and V6 sound amazing. I would consider one if they were released over here, and I love the look of the Veloster.

It would end up being around 50k, at that point, might as well go buy a 370z at 60k.

    Like I did.
