The 8R SQ5 is a beast (so much torque and just effortless acceleration) with a very reliable engine and gearbox/drivetrain, but compared to the other much newer options, it will feel dated. It is a very solid and well built car though. You can upgrade the whole infotainment screen to a larger one and have Carplay/Android Auto for $1k which does wonders for modernising the interior. If you do go this route, find a 2014-2015 model which dont have AdBlue - the AdBlue systems in the late 2015-2017 models are all starting to fail in the SQ5's and will cost you a small fortune (unless you get the car remapped and coded out). The most important thing to consider with the diesel, is that they do not like short trips and lots of idling. So unless you regularly do 30+ minute drives at 80+kph then do not get a diesel as you will have issues with it (its all the emissions stuff that plays up such as the DPF and EGR if they dont get longer drives to heat up)
The Octavia is huge inside (my brother has owned several as work/least cars), and im sure the Audi would be of a similar size. The Golf wagon is still a decent size but not the same as the Octy/Audi.
Also dont forget the Cupra: https://www.drive.com.au/reviews/202...l-first-drive/
