I'd pay the oustanding fines and take it as is, if he'd sign it over to me. I'd even go and fetch it ....
How can I track him down?

Hey just seen all this going on. That car is just down the road from me. Ed etc on Oz Edition aren't very active and haven't replied to any threads.
Now in total seriousness, what will happen to this car if the council tow it? Will it go to auction or the crusher.
Is their anyway to get 'custody' of it. 'Cos i'd be willing to store it in my garage until the owner is found and if not......well i guess i'd put it back on the road.
Custody would be getting it to your place on a towie.I'd say you need to contact them. As far as I know (and this is a long shot) Nathan is related to the family that run Glover Electrical in Hobart, maybe give them a call and see if there is a way to make contact.
If the council get it then it will be a letter to the last registered owner and then normally off to scrappers.
Its a massive Grey area guys.
Basically, technically it is stealing.
However, the council end up having to pay the removal charges and then either sell the cars as scrap or auction them.
To the uninitiated, that is an old car and thus, could easily be scrapped.
If I was local and wanted it, I would go and knock on all the neighbours doors near the car and see if anyone knows about it.
You will either get the yes its mine, or its been here for weeks, we want it gone answer.
Technically if it is unregistered with no plates and you took it and then came up with a reciept from someone for it and passed an inspection, you could register it and it would be yours.
Personally I reckon once they have a council yellow remove this car sticker, its fair game. Urban Scavenging in my book. I had a few wins back in the day with dumped cars, but I`m too old now and dont want a Mk1.
I reckon brazenly turning up with a trailer or truck in daylight will attract a lot less attention than sneaking around at night.
Good Luck, happy hunting.

Ha, I like your style Matt - and the daylight thing is very true. Just look like you know what your doing an no one asks.
I would a. suggest not mentioning your planning on doing it and b. not post pics up once it is registered![]()
Lucky someone saw it! I think teh best attempt should be made to get the car back to its owner! Imagine if your stuff went walk about...
If saving it invloves parking it on your lawn for a bit then do so! Just make sure you let the owner know...
Please guys save it![]()
I have just spoken to Nathan now...
The car is back at his house.
Some stuff has been stolen though. Nathan has just got back from Tassie and the car broke down on a test run.
Stolen was:
Steering wheel
K-jet injection
Radiator
A blue box full of 16v parts in the boot
Someone must know something about it.
Please PM if ya know anything. We just need to get Nathan's stuff back.
Damn that's horrible that stuff has been stolen. It'd be pretty rough just taking someone else's stuff even if you deem it right for whatever reason.
If I lived near there I'd just put it in my backyard to keep it off the street and from being vandalised. Good job getting onto the owner Waterboy, hopefully you get his stuff back.
