Thread: Transport company recommendation (for a mk6 Golf R)

Question Transport company recommendation (for a mk6 Golf R)

    Hi all,
Any good recommendations for a transport company to move a Golf R interstate from Sydney? Not sure if the stock ground clearance is too low for standard transporters (most seem to require 15cm minimum clearance). Anyone had a good experience moving a Golf R interstate?

    Cheers

They move cars all around Australia!
I would not be concerned about the ground clearance, remember it would have been trucked in from the wharf's originally!!!
Plenty of lower cars around too...

I've used a few as someone who has shifted around the country a bit the last few years.

I have used Ceva and were ok, but Prixcar were more competitive and more helpful service wise. They carried my M-Sport BMW Ade-GC, and a Golf R wagon GC-Ade no problems most recently.

The heights are relevant for more generic transport, if you're happy to pay a (massive) premium then the right mob will move a car sitting on the ground in its own contained box and play it Wagner's Ring Cycle on the way.

Thanks for the info guys - those were the two I’d enquired with so far (PrixCar and CEVA). I’ve used PrixCar in the past and was happy. The front spoiler of this mk6 R has 130mm clearance and PrixCar requires 150mm for its standard transporter - did this come up as an issue with your Golf R wagon?

CEVA specify 120mm and 130mm on different pages of their website.

You might be safer with Ceva in this instance if that's the case.

I was just looking over my last moves and the 150mm appears to be a soft limit, via email they did set a hard limit of 140mm after I raised an issue that my BMW at the time was a bit under 150mm.

Either way - check via phone with them as in my case, they buried that in their fine print regardless of acceptance of the vehicle in the quote mechanism (and my car was stock). Had they not had the relaxed 140mm limit they were going to try and charge a cancellation fee which would have been a fun visit to court.

Can I ask how you went with moving your Golf R interstate sharkpatrol7? I was looking into interstate car transport for my 2017 Golf R from Melbourne to Perth and both companies were quoting over $2500, seems a bit steep!! Has anyone tried www.vehiclemove.com.au ?

G'day - my move went fine other than approx 3 million bugs splattered then sun-baked on the front... I imagine I had some bad luck with the car being positioned at the front of the truck.

I went with CEVA due to my car's front spoiler 130mm clearance which was the minimum specified by them (others quoted 150mm required). They didn't seem to check it though when accepting the car.

For me it was $745 Sydney to Adelaide but obviously to Perth is a *****load further so the cost would reflect that.

My work used to involve organising car transport and we used to have to repaint some cars when they got to Perth. If it is not in a covered trailer I would be putting some protective covering over the front of the car to prevent stone damage.
