Update on my mate trying to buy the 86 in Sydney. We both went into a Parramtta dealer on Thursday lunch get a test drive. Yet again we were told we would have to put a deposit down before we could test drive a car!!!!!!!
This time we were told waiting is anything up to "TWO YEARS" for the GTS!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to say we went 100mts up the road to the VW dealer and he is now looking at the Polo GTI for 8k less and delivery next month as there is one on a boat.
Well done Toyota on a great test drive sales strategy.
For the record the car looks great but the interior is a dodgy as he'll in the quality stakes and you could just about fit a six year old in the back with the seats pulled forward (wife would have to be driving)..
Oh the irony.... a year ago the VW dealer would have said the same to your mate regarding Polo GTI availability.....Quote:

2 years is a hell of a waiting period.
I believe the Polo GTI blew out to 18 months for a custom order at some stage early in it's life but a lot of people withdrew and it came back down to 6 months or so i had been told.
I would say for 99% of the time the GTI would actually be more enjoyable as the only benefit people keep saying of the 86 is RWD.
I'm not sure if it was posted,
Is The Day Of The Dealer Dead?
I knew about that, but the reaction and what will come after, could be really interesting one. :)
Interesting - bit a short-term gimmick in my opinion. The people that will do this are of the same mentality as those who already have orders on the next iphone. It creates hype and a short-term feeling of exclusiveness. Once the lead times shorten, they'll start putting them in dealerships.
My mate finally put an order in and changed tack totally. He ordered the new Scubi BRZ in blue.
Nice looking car and seems to have the quality edge on the 86.
