I finished the ride yesterday, 5hrs40min average 29kmh, that was the riding time, not including time at the feed stations.
Was pretty good for the first half but from Strathalbyn through Milang was into a massive headwind.
Glad it's over now!!
Good effort Gavin! Hope you raised a lot of cash for the Cancer Council.
Nice one Gavin, well done! Thats not a bad average at all especially into a headwind - I think we would be all really happy with that.
How have you pulled up today?
When Cadel Evans says it was the toughest winds he's ever seen in SA or anywhere, and it was strong enough to blow people off bikes, plus the soaring temps, Gav has completed a very, very tough event, and when his massive ass chapping heals, should feel rightly proud of hiumself!

Thanks fellas.
I have suffered a bit more than I expected to. After having ridden a similar distance before, this was a surprise.
I guess the push into the wind took a lot more out of me than I thought.
I was cramping in my calves and glutes for the last section into Goolwa. There were a few rolling hills and had to pedal really carefully not to aggravate the muscles.
I also reckon I went off a bit hard at the start. Putting more than 10 minutes into the other lads in my group up the Gorge and Fox Creek in the first hour. Couldn't help it...... Hare and Tortoise lesson learnt there.
Would rather have ridden in 40 degrees and no wind I think. Without the wind I could have knocked maybe 20-30 minutes off the ride time and I would have been in and out of the feed stations quicker too.
I won't say roll on next year just yet.
Pleased to get round with no mechanicals, expect for double punctures putting my bike in the car> some spiky weeds at the road side.
The new wheels performed well, I clocked over 80 down one hill!!
Gavin
